Generally? Yes.

For Bush? No.

He's forsaken his oath of office, abused the constitution and the trust placed in him to defend it. I have no respect for him whatsoever.

No respect for the idiot. He has caused us more damage and problems and set us back as a nation instead of leading us forward. There are serious problems ahead not only abroad but within our own boundaries. Keep an eye on the stock market soon.

The guy would lose my respect for sure. In fact I would probably be one of the few that would go against his orders. I would do a take over and relieve him of his duties or beat the shit out of him.

I respect the office, but not necessarily the individual holding it.

Respect is earned, not given. The 'office' of president has earned respect.

This current president was doing a great job earning respect. "I hear you, the rest of the world hears you, and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear from all of us soon." That was his greatest moment. From that day forward it has gone down hill, and started to snow ball.

He had a path laid out for him which could have lead to him being labeled one of the best presidents in the history of our country. He took that momentum with our country and the rest of the world and pissed it away. He should retire to his ranch in shame over what he has done, if not retire to jail.

I do not wish him harm, but he has no and has deserved no respect from me or anyone else imho.

I think I would rather meet Clinton than Bush. He would probably be quite boring in fact.

I don't see how an office can earn respect, it is composed of people, and I don't confer respect earned by one person onto another

I understand that, but I feel differently

That is simply because you have a different viewpoint regarding authority figures, I suspect.

I do not have dislike for authority, but nor do I think of them differently to any other person in most circumstances.

well I think it comes down to respect for my country as well. I have met plenty of elected officals, who politics I don't agree with, but the majority of my country does.

The majority are not always right, I suppose it is part of my viewpoint on life, reserve judgment and not attribute things to people without due cause.

That does not mean I will be automatically rude to a public figure, or anything like that, but I just don't feel their thoughts are more important, even if they do have more impact.
