| I do respect the office but sometimes those who occupy it lose my respect as individuals. | ||||

| Everyone has a different idea of what respect for the office means. If I saw George Bush, I'd be extremely polite to him out of respect that he's the president, despite the fact I think he's a moronic douche. On the other hand, some people probably think respect for office means you're not supposed to talk ill of him in any circumstance. | ||||

| I don't respect positions, I respect people, based on their words and actions. Respect has to be earned, IMO | ||||

| I respect the office and I would still be respectful to Bush in person, in fact I agree with him on certain issues, etc... but I don't respect a lot of the decisions he has made nor the way he has used the office of President. | ||||

| I guess I see the President as the face for everything that we, as Americans do, and that is why he deserves our respect. So if it was John Kerry or Joe Biden I would still respect him. Even though Bush getting re-elected was probably the reason I got a PH in Iraq | ||||

There is nothing special about the people in one nation more than any other, though I do agree with some ideas more than others. | ||||

| Respect should go with the person not the office. Why should someone automatically get respect because of a title? Its dangerous to our country that a person, who is just as fallible as any other human, gets the kind of respect that allows him to make important decisions that affect us all with question. Ultimately that is what respect is about, that we trust the person (or the office) to do the things that have a great impact. Well the way our republic is set up, it is not supposed to work that way, the President gets respected inasmuch as he/she respects the congress and vice-versa - our checks and balances, whatever happened to our respect for that? | ||||
