when you live alone (or with other adults), and you make a reasonable attempt at hiding your guns, yes I feel that is responsible.

So do you feel that the guns being in a duffel bag out of plain sight in a locked home where no one can legally enter except the owner of the guns is failing to be responsible?

It isn't as if he had the guns sitting out on the window seal for any 6 year old boy to wander up and take.

Hiding guns is NOT a responsible action and it is NOT the same as securing them. Even if there weren't a law against it...it's still not responsible

Leaving them on the porch or on the lawn or in plain site in an open garage would be irresponsible.

Keeping them hidden in a locked house when you live by yourself is not irresponsible in the least.

How is it not responsible when no one is legally allowed nor expected in your residence except for you? Are you suggesting now that everyone should have to live in fear of both police AND criminals if some worthless human being with no respect for private property decides to break into my own?

Yes, I'm obviously a felon because someone broke into my home.

exactly. i only see a safe as being necessary when there are children involved. other than that, it is being substantially responsible to keep the guns out of general site in your own private home behind a locked door.

ballz should not be charged with a felony offense for this. it's absurd.

Yes, he should because his actions were against the law. Another sign of a "responsible" gun owner is to know the laws concerning gun ownership.

Even more than that, the law should never have been written where someone CAN be charged with a felony for being a victim of a crime.

When you purchase a gun you have certain responsibilities. When you have kids, you have certain responsibilities. Certain things in life require you to increase your level of responsibility.

i don't own guns, but i don't agree with your sense of responsibility. I think it's far too "coddling" for me.

Two separate issues. Ballz COMMITTED A CRIME by not securing his guns. Totally separate issue from the people that robbed him.

Is there a real problem in MA with guns being stolen and then used in other crimes?

I'm kind of interested after all of this in learning where most of the "underground" or "street" guns come from. Are they sold by shady dealers, or stolen, etc?

I know that's why I made that post. Ballz was obviously wrong and I hope he can get out of it with no charges.

It should not be a crime to have a gun in your locked house. Makes me glad I live in a red state.
