That depends on your perspective. If Christianity, as in this case, is associated with helping others in need, and Islam, as in this case, is associated with killing others, then sure, a little Christianity could do them some good.

I was reading a depth article a while back that described efforts to do reconstruction in Afghanistan. They described the oppertunities to build a thriving economy and the willingness of the people to work on it. But whenever contractors attempted to get anything done they were attacked by drug lords or Taliban.
The problem in Afghanistan isn't the people, Islam, or the people who are there to help, it's that no one else gives a shit, and would rather joke about people putting themselves in a dangerous situation to help others.

I think what thomez is trying to say is that we shouldn't be amazed that this is happening, and those christians knew the risks going in there. Is it tragic, unfortunate, or whatever word you want to use, sure it is. Police, fire, and others who have those duties also know the risks. It is tragic when one of them sacrifices their life, sure, but it is also not surprising when it happens.

Bottom line, this is not surprising. It is also too bad we don't have the resources we could have to possibly go rescue those people.

But that is pure speculation, and you cannot use that as an argument, since you are basing such comments on what you FEEL they are doing. You have to look at the facts, which is that these good people were over there to provide medical care to one of the poorest countries in the world. And yet, people here attack them for putting themselves 'in that situation'?

it is very unfortunate. We DO have the resources to make this known to the country, which, for some reason, I've yet to see it on TV or any other major media outlet.

It's not necessarily our job to go in and rescue the Koreans, I believe it's the Koreans who should do so, and they are trying. But it's situations like this that people need to be aware of...and our media is avoiding doing so.

I'm not surprised that the Taliban would do such things, nor am I surprised that good Christian people would put themselves in harm way in an attempt to do good. But I will not blame the Christian doctors and nurses for the actions of the Taliban.

Apparently 23 Christians from South Korea have gone to Afghanistan to work in hospitals and help the people there. The Taliban kidnapped them at gunpoint and have threatened several times to cut off their heads unless certain demands are met, at this point I believe it's money. At the moment South Korean negotiators are meeting with the Taliban, while Afghanis are protesting in the streets against the Taliban.

So why haven't we heard about this story in the US at ALL when it's such a huge story all over the rest of the world?

Um it took up half of the gulf of mexico and they saw it building strenght every hour it was past florida.
