Romney, McCain lash out at Democrats

I found this highly amusing. especially the part where McCain says he should play sports because he watches them all the time on TV.

what do you guys think about Obama's stance on foreign policy and his willingness to meet with these "terror sponsoring" leaders?

i personally think it's a bit over zealous this early in the game, but he'll either prove himself or dig himself deeper.

AP - Republican presidential hopefuls Mitt Romney and John McCain lashed out at their top Democratic rivals on Wednesday, arguing that they are too liberal for the nation and ill-prepared for the top job.

Romney was particularly biting in his assessment of New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Democratic front-runner.

"I don't think Hillary Clinton could get elected president of France with her platform. France is moving toward us," the former Massachusetts governor told voters at a senior citizens center.

"I'm convinced that America is going to change course and the question is which way it is going to go: Are we going to take a sharp left turn represented by Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and John Edwards, or are we going to march forth with the American values that have always helped us be the strongest nation on earth. And I believe we'll do the latter," Romney said.

Separately, McCain took exception to remarks in which Obama asserted his foreign policy judgment was superior to any of the candidates in the race, Republican or Democrat, partly because he has lived overseas and had a multicultural upbringing.

"Well, I also think I'm the most qualified to run the decathlon because I watch sports on television all the time," Arizona senator said with a degree of sarcasm.

"I think that Senator Obama showed a degree of naivete when he advocated direct talks with the leader of North Korea and the president to Iran and of all these other people who are sponsoring terror all over the world," McCain told The Associated Press between campaign stops in New Hampshire.

Obama has been feuding with Clinton over their differing responses to a question in Monday night's debate. Obama said that as president he would be willing to meet with certain world leaders perceived as hostile to the United States, while Clinton expressed caution about committing herself in advance and later called Obama's response naive.

"One thing I'm very confident about is my judgment in foreign policy is, I believe, better than any other candidate in this race, Republican or Democrat," Obama said at a private event in New York City Tuesday, according to his campaign.

"And I don't base that simply on the fact that I was right on the war in Iraq. ... What I was drawing on was a set of experiences that come from a life of living overseas, having family overseas, being able to see the world through the eyes of people outside our borders," Obama said. "The notion that somehow from Washington you get this vast foreign policy experience is illusory."

The Republicans' criticism of their Democratic counterparts comes amid national polls that show the White House race is far more wide open on the Republican side than on the Democratic side. The latest Associated Press-Ipsos poll found that nearly a quarter of Republicans are unwilling to back top-tier hopefuls Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, McCain or Romney.

In sharp contrast, the Democratic race remains static, with Clinton holding a sizable lead over Obama.

As for Romney, despite polls showing he trails McCain, Giuliani and Thompson nationally, he and his staff point to state surveys showing him leading in early voting Iowa and New Hampshire. One of Romney's pollsters, Alex Gage, sent the staff a memo last week pronouncing their candidate the front-runner for the nomination based on polling trends.

McCain is also pinning his hopes on New Hampshire, where he won the 2000 primary by 19 percent points over George W. Bush. But he trails Romney by 8 percentage points in a recent poll, and is tied with Giuliani in the state. His top staff has left, he's laid off scores of other staffers and his bank accounts are near empty.

The idea that we punish those people by refusing to talk to them is ridiculous to begin with. I don't have any problem with bush or anyone else going to iran or korea or sudan or anywhere else to talk with another leader. What better way to get your point across then face to face.

I think the key problem were the words in the question "without preconditions."

Not that anyone should rule out such meetings. It was a minor Obama gaff and she punched back. But I don't think it is any big deal at this point.
