You mean, he doesn't want unskilled, impovrished, criminals coming into this country?

You mean, we should only grand citizenship to people whose skills we can use? People who are able to make a start forthemselves with government assistance? And people who want to be part of american society?

Wow, I wish someone would have thought of this 25 years ago....

Something like 1 in 12 illegal immigrants has a criminal record right? I'm willing to bet the majority of those are the unskilled ones.

that was for students getting academic visas and stuff. they have more hoops to jump through and it's more of a pain in the ass. i doubt many are refused their visas though...but i really don't know. i just have some friends that have to reapply sometimes and they are nervous they can't make it back.

applications for the best students to the US schools are way down, they are going to Europe instead

Last year was, without doubt, the toughest year ever for elite college admissions. Many seniors with 1550+ SAT Is and 770+ SAT IIs (etc., etc.) were either rejected or waitlisted. I find this situation almost unbelievable. I say these things not to discourage you but, rather, to prepare you for what lies ahead: a challenging admissions process. This year will be even tougher, especially among the Top-25 colleges and the Ivies.

We have more qualified students than ever and not enough room for them.

no, I don't think so. They're going to Cambridge which has less hoops to jump through.

Oh I read your post wrong. I thought you said Americans are starting to go overseas. Which is true, because American schools are becoming more competitive.

no, I was talking about applications from abroad to go to our best schools

they are way down, and way up for Europe - we are for the first time having a decrease in the number of applicants from overseas, while applications from say China, are up like 55% in Europe

it's just easier to go through, like b2w had said before
