Ahhh, excellent proof. If they want it passed, it must be to silence conservative radio! There can be no other reason.

Next you have to tell me me to prove that they aren't passing it to silence conservatives.

Hey, if Democrats want to boycott Ford, Chevy, Victoria Secret, etc because of their inane hate of Fox News more power to 'em I was using it as an example of the extreme hate and obsession that Democrats/liberals have for one cable channel. It's silly. Isn't changing the channel kind of boycotting their advertisers? They need to do that more often.
If anti-abortionists boycotted KMart because they advertised ontop of every abortion clinic, it'd make perfect sense to you, if people being vilified on Fox News as "Nazis" don't want anything to do with Fox or its sponsors, it's laughable and makes no sense

This idea of opinion in the news media is a ridiculous propositition to begin with. The job of a news organizatoin is to report accurate facts about the world. It does the country a disservice when an organization masquerades as a news agency and then spouts partisan opinion.
Listen to NPR once in a while. Thier reports flat out refuse to inject opinion. I heard an interview once there the subject tried to get the reporter to state her opinion on something and she flat out refused. That's how it should be.

And notice, he won't even flat out admit that Fox News is right-wing opinion journalism...no, the closest anyone gets is that its a station which "airs the other side" what he means is "only airs the other side" in which case it's like we've been saying all along, a GOP mouthpiece

The NY Times was instrumental in building up support for the Iraq War in its news reporting, and has been running pro-war op-eds for years, with a big one just recently...however they're still the "anti-war" paper...whatever

Networks like CNN, or programs like NBC Nightly News, have gone WAY out of their way to be non-bias in observing politics, and instead of getting a slap on the back, they get trashed because they don't slant their news right like fox does

Fox News proves that the whole "liberal media" myth was always crap, because the ONLY news station conservatives think is "fair and balanced" is one that overhwelmingly tilts right

They always wanted NBC to act like Fox News, and until that happened, they were going to call them the "liberal media"

Like Bill Kristol, leader of the Neo-cons, said, "I admit it: the liberal media were never that powerful, and the whole thing was often used as an excuse by conservatives for conservative failures."
Hey. I have a great idea. Instead of obsessing over it and creating thread, after thread, after thread, after thread, after thread, after thread, after thread, after thread, after thread, after thread, after thread, after thread, after thread about it. You can just turn the channel and watch something else! WOW!!! It's like you are your own parent and are controlling what you watch. You don't even need a V-chip!!!

That's not how advertising works.
One of my great friends is the station manager at a local TV channel. Every month she gives ratings to her advertisers and charges them based on the ratings of the times they want to place their ads.

Turn the channel and their ratings go down.

Maybe for a Nielson family (which is a tiny sampling).
They have no idea what the rest of us are watching so we buy or don't buy goods that use the ad space.

Why am I having to explain this to someone with "conservative" under their name?

People get upset because it's actually bad for the country. Many people don't realize that they are not watching news. They think they are, but they are really being fed partisan opinion. The fact that they don't know that they are not watching the news is bad. We have a vested interest in this country in people having the true story, having the facts, and then forming an opinoin. That's how democracy works. The people need to know what they are voting on. When people are fed thier opinoins by a powerful few, it dillutes the entire democratic process.

Because the station in question is trying to convince millions of Americans that I'm a Nazi

I listened to a story on NPR about Havana. How healthy the people looked and everyone road their bikes everywhere. The story actually started with the sound of one of those bike bells. He was gushing with how wonderful Havana was and he interviewed Castro and Castro talked about how important physical education was and how they took pains to make sure schools made sure the kids were physically fit.

Of course the reporter didn't once mention that any political decent would get you jail or worse. How there was no freedom of speech or freedom of the press. How the elderly aren't allowed drugs or milk. At the end of the story I was pounding my steering wheel in frustration. My good friend Jorge had just come from Cuba to visit his family and he couldn't believe how scared people were there. Police on every street corner. They wouldn't talk to him about their opinions of Castro for fear someone would overhear and they would be arrested.

A reporter doesn't have to give an opinion to make a story one sided.

It sounds like the piece was about Health in Havana...

The only relevant thing you said about Health in Havana is the elderly being denied any milk...untrue...they have milk shortages and put a focus on children, but the elderly who desire milk get soy milk, which I actually prefer

So basically, you want every story on Cuba to talk all the problems Cuba faces?

So if the German radio stations were doing a report about the new GOP medicare plan that's taking affect in the US, they should talk about how we are in an quagmire in Iraq, full of crooked politicians which Americans happily elect, how we are full of fat citizens whose country consumes an overwhelming amount of resources while other countries starve and all sorts of attacks on America

People generally only hear bad things about cuba. Maybe this interest piece was an attempt to give a more balanced view of the country.

Oh! So you are protecting the population! People are too stupid to know what they are watching. What kind of elitist bullshit is that to think?

In one thread you think people are smart enough to decide it's ok to take illegal drugs. And in this thread people are too stupid to not watch Fox news. You have got to be kidding me

I don't see how the two are similar actually. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that heroin is bad for you. Actually I challenge you to find one living human being that doesn't know heroin is bad for you.

Fox news is totally different. People are essentially being told that they are getting news. For christs sake it's the Fox NEWS channel. Yes there are alot of people who don't know that what they are watching is not in fact news.

yeah well, ive been reading anti-Castro websites for years, and they do complain about milk, that the elderly are forced to drink soy milk

Why would anti-Castro Cubans lie about soy milk?

So your friend is mistaken or lying, or anti-Castro Cubans are really stupid...you pick
