My grandfather probably could've gone pro as a boxer if he'd wanted to. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps from the age of 16 (18 was the minimum, but he lied to get in. To this day his army records have him born in 1920), so he developed quite a bit of muscle mass doing all that manual labor ... I've seen pics of him from the late 30s and early 40s, right around when he was 18-20 years old, and he looked like a monster.

6'3", at that time he was probably 200 pounds of pure muscle. Could've definitely been in the heavyweight division back in the day.

My grandpa was a golden gloves boxer (in the Navy) about that time period too

Boxing was pretty popular until the late 70s early 80s. At that point they got greedy and began only airing major fights on pay per view type networks.

UFC is sooooooooo much more interesting to watch. You get such a variety of styles and tactics. I wanted to not like it, but once I started watching and realized they weren't just in this cage to make each other bleed I became fascinated by it. It's so cool to watch someone win a fight without ever throwing a punch.

I feel really bad for Keith Jardine. He's from Albuquerque, and he's a good fighter, but Chuck Liddell is going to wreck him. He has no chance.

Liddell is an animal and is good in so many areas. He's such a smart fighter too and he always seems to be able to counter opponents strategies once the fight starts.

Yep. I'm still convinced he's a better fighter than Quinton Jackson, despite the 2 knockouts.

But the fight I'm really looking forward to is Randy Couture vs. Gabriel Gonzaga in a couple weeks. That's going to be awesome.

Jardine got fucking wrecked by Houston Alexander. I'd much rather see Alexander fight Liddell because Alexander can fucking punch as well as anyone I have seen in UFC, including Liddell. Jardine is a stepping stone, nothing more.

Liddell is not a better fighter than Jackson or he wouldn't have gotten dominated once and knocked out the 2nd time. Liddell has an unorthodox style that is hard to manage but there are better fighters. Jackson is a tough matchup for him.

Oh, and Couture wants nothing to do with Gonzaga, and even said as much before Gonzaga's last fight (Cro-Crop). Randy has a lot more work to do in this fight than beating punk-ass Silvia.

I have no doubt there are better fighters. But I'm not convinced that Jackson is one of them. He lucked into this KO. I've been hit harder than that and not even hurt. He just happened to hit Liddell just right the right way at that moment and got lucky. And I'm not bashing Jackson - EVERYBODY gets lucky sometimes. Jackson is a good fighter. Just not as good as Liddell.

He's still going to win. The fact that Gonzaga might be a tougher fight than Sylvia was and Crocop would have been doesn't change that.

There was no luck about it, Chuck did something that he does all the time - hands down, wide open - and Jackson put it on the money.
