That and Gustapo( my IT department ) saw fit to block my legitmate non-streaming music service. ( similar to iTunes ) so now I can't even listen to music. Even though it didn't eat up bandwidth, it didn't pose a security risk and it doesn't violate any copyright laws. Grrr. They have this arbitrary and capricious policy that if something gets onto our block list, even if by accident, you need a valid business reason for having it unblocked. I guess keeping employees happy is not a valid business reason. | ||||

they're up here too. i come into work to do my boss' expenses one day and find out i'm off the shared drive. i work for a small private equity company that my investment banking company started. i worked for the investment banking first, then moved over when the PE firm started.. so because of NASD regulations (mothafuckas) i can't have access to the shared drive, where i have pics from past work events (I took them and stored them there) and i couldn't even get into my own or my boss' expenses.... wtf. seriously. and the other two assistant for the investment banking firm got invited to a sox game tonight and i didn't. i couldn't go anyway cause i have to pack tonight, but still. it hurts to be left out....  | ||||

| I am "the man" where I work. You "users" always screw shit up and then blame the computer for being a piece of junk while using it as an excuse for why you can't get anything done. Then the bosses come back to the man and say "why can't she get any work done? ...I tell you why.. her computer is a piece of shit". Then the man has to take heat for you, because YOU screwed up your computer and use it as an excuse as to why you can't get any of your work done. Don't sweat the man.  It's not written in any of our employee manuals or policy documents that they won't unblock a site unless you have a valid business reason. In fact, it states in our ISS policy :"We understand that legally licensed materials are readily available and play a role in work life balance. IS&S will work with managers at Albridge to report the existence of these types of copyrighted materials and the individual in control of the device will be contacted to make sure that proper licensing is in place. " Of course, the ISS team has set thier own policy in contraditcion to this that no music or any other copyrighted files may be stored on the desktops. I brought this up but no one cares, so I don't want to push it. The guy that pushes his luck in that manner is the 1st one to get shit canned. | ||||
