Bridge Collapse

I hope there aren't any Minneapolis people on here that got hurt or know anyone who got hurt. this is absolutely crazy to think this happened.

shit is going to hit the fan when they backtrack to the engineers...

I am still here. My wife's employees had all left around that time and one crossed 7 minutes prior to collapse. One other wasn't so lucky. She was on bridge during collapse and her car went into the river. She swam out through the broken glass and swam to shore. She is fine. I pray for the rest of the families missing loved ones.

jeez. i still can't believe something like this happened. I'm glad your wife and family are safe. at least the woman who was on the bridge is safe now. I see there are 4 confirmed dead now. Hopefully the number won't rise.

That would be one hell of a ride.

I think I would probably have urine on my pants.

I think the general population is the same way. Remember 9/11 and being glued to the screen to watch the devastation and horror for hours. I don't know what it is but people will sit there and watch for hours the same picture of the bridge or whatever waiting for some little bits of news even though it is the same thing repeated over and over again in different ways. Then they always interview some eye witness asking them what did you see. Well duhhh what do you think they saw dumb shit reporter. A damn bridge collapsed. I know lets get a shot of the most bloody person we can find and play it over and over again.

Sure we can sit here glued to the television when a tragedy hits the US soil. Why don't we have live tv of the Iraq battles and devastation happening there. Lets find the bloodiest person and film them. Lets ask all the eyewitness accounts what happened. What is different about these two scenarios? Both have American lives lost. Both are man made disasters?

I guess I should clarify, for some reason I really would have wanted to be on it when it collapsed. I'm not really paying much attention to news on it. Kinda like I'd like to be in a car that falls off a bridge into water and have to climb out of it and swim to safety. I know people died, and I shouldn't think it is cool, but godamn if I wouldn't have wanted to be there. I don't really feel that way about 9/11.

I am more interested in the engineering aspects of why it collapsed. Everytime something like this happens my work freaks out because bridge design is one of our main things we do.

They say that in 05 they deemed it structurally unsafe. The lady who went in the water told us she saw and heard jackhammer going at the time. Then she felt the whole bridge vibrate like a jackhammer. My assumption is the jackhammers caused a vibration that went through the already weakened structure then collapse. I also think it was a matter of time. What where they thinking putting steel structures here in MN. They salt the roads so much, the roads look white most of the winter like they have snow on them permanently. Salt and steel not good mixture.

You need some excitment in your life. That bridge would be the last place I would ever want to be when it was falling.

So much for those government inspections keeping you safe on the roadways! Headline should be "Big government fails Americans again, innocent people die"

Bunch of other interesting media (interviews of people who were on the bridge but survived)
