Uh...this is exactly how the Democrats ran the House in their 60 year reign, and how Republicans ran the House in their 12 year reign

If either party wanted a different system: THEY WOULD HAVE CHANGED THE RULES

Don't act like GOP members in the House for like 3 decades haven't seen this stuff before and it's some big surprise...but neither party wanted it changed...to the victor goes the spoils

Oh yeah, here are some great dirty tricks the GOP is playing:
Republicans were playing a game that the minority usually plays -- you have your guys vote with the other side, then have them change at the last minute. This forces the majority to come up with votes quickly. Although on close issues they would rather spare their endangered members in swing districts and give them a free vote, the majority leadership then has to tell their endangered members to bite their tongues and vote the party line.
Just one of many

So they're claiming the voting machine is working despite being able to prove it?

They count on it. They count on them to spread their message. I will never forget that clip I saw on PBS back in the 90's where the Democrats are sitting around a strategy table and they are saying things like "Did the media get out our message today?" Like it was their job to do so.

Why do you think Michael Moore got so angry with CNN when Fox was saying much worse about his new movie? Because that was considered left-wing betrayal!

Some people admire dishonest politics and approve as long as it is done quietly by their own party. Elites think fooling the American people is fun sport and sometimes for their own good. Guess who pays for these antics?

Can you explain what exactly happened here and what he did was wrong for those of us who are unfamiliar with the rules of the House?

And also while the video is obviously cut to make him look bad and like he did something wrong, can you provide us with the actual tally of people and so forth who were there?

The people closest to the C-SPAN camera's being more noisy than everyone else doesn't actually mean there were more of them, etc..

I'd like some actual facts before passing judgment.

He said the vote machine was in fact working and the Clerk was able to tell people how they voted, do you have any evidence that this wasn't the case aside from a carefully edited youtube clip that appears to be have been taken at face value by many in this thread?

The first clip is pretty obvious

Murtha, acting speaker, had the Democrats tell him in advance they were for the vote, the whip informed him they had the majority votes and 217 dems were for it, etc

When several motions were going through, that one came up, and Murtha knew they had the votes, but Democratic members were in the hallways/their office/out of range to be heard by cspan cameras, so it was of his opinion that the ayes had it, because he knew the GOP was just yelling louder and at the time had more members right infront of CSPAN

that was it...nothing dirty, just rules to make congress pass faster...this was not legislation or anything...and besides like i said its nothing dirty its the rules

The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives early on June 25 as H.R. 1, sponsored by Speaker Dennis Hastert. All that day and the next the bill was debated, and it was apparent that the bill would be very divisive. In the early morning of June 27, a floor vote was taken. After the initial electronic vote, the count stood at 214 yeas, 218 nays.

Three Republican representatives then changed their votes. One opponent of the bill, Ernest J. Istook, Jr. (R-OK-5), changed his vote to "present" upon being told that C.W. Bill Young (R-FL-10), who was absent due to a death in the family, would have voted "aye" if he had been present. Next, Republicans Butch Otter (ID-1) and Jo Ann Emerson (MO-8) switched their vote to "aye" under pressure from the party leadership. The bill passed by one vote, 216-215.

On June 26, the Senate passed its version of the bill, 76-21. The bills were unified in conference, and on November 21, the bill came back to the House for approval. Former U.S. House Majority Leader Dick Armey, an influential Republican working as Chairman of the limited government group FreedomWorks, wrote an op-ed the day of the vote in the Wall Street Journal opposing the bill.[8]

The bill came to a vote at 3 a.m. on November 22. After 45 minutes, the bill was losing, 219-215, with David Wu (D-OR-1) not voting. Speaker Dennis Hastert and Majority Leader Tom DeLay sought to convince some of dissenting Republicans to switch their votes, as they had in June. Istook, who had always been a wavering vote, consented quickly, producing a 218-216 tally. In a highly unusual move, the House leadership held the vote open for hours as they sought two more votes. Then-Representative Nick Smith (U.S. politician) (R-MI) claimed he was offered campaign funds for his son, who was running to replace him, in return for a change in his vote from "nay" to "yea," but later recanted.[9]

About 5:50 a.m., convinced Otter and Trent Franks (AZ-2) to switch their votes. With passage assured, Wu voted yea as well, and Democrats Calvin M. Dooley (CA-20), Jim Marshall (GA-3) and David Scott (GA-13) changed their votes to the affirmative. But Brad Miller (D-NC-13), and then, Republican John Culberson (TX-7), reversed their votes from "yea" to "nay". The bill passed 220-215.

The Democrats cried foul, and Bill Thomas, the Republican chairman of the Ways and Means committee, challenged the result in an empty gesture to satisfy the minority. He subsequently voted to table his own challenge; the tally to table was 210 ayes, 193 noes.

Statistically speaking, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has given Republicans a stronger voice in the minority -- allowing more amendments under so-called "open rules" on the House floor than her GOP predecessors did. Midway through the 2007 session, Democrats had allowed eight open rules compared with two under Republicans last year. And the majority allowed 60 GOP amendments, compared with 51 Democratic amendments authorized by Republicans halfway through last year
All hail the Democrats
