I'll be interested in hearing everyone's analysis. From what I saw, they all looked and sounded good. Lot of playing to the labor crowd, and it just had a more raucous feel to it (probably because it was in a stadium.)

Obama's dodge of the Barry Bonds question was artful, and the post debate coverage keeps replaying Hillary's "I fought the right wing and come out stronger, so if you want a winner, I'm your girl!" (paraphrase) This might be the clip played in the morning news tomorrow. Hey, let's see if we can trick the right wing into making a big fuss about feminism and the word "girl" so we can call more attention to Hillary!

They all looked strong. It's a good field. Any one of them could be trusted with the job IMO. Dodd and Biden were impressive, Kucinich is great, passionate and direct. Edwards had a good moment or two too. Hillary looked and sounded like a strong leader.

Haven't seen it yet, but I am looking forward to catching it on youtube tomorrow. The conservative blogs are saying he did a decent job thus far... So good job Keithy.

He knows what it is like to lose a spouse, as his wife and daughter were killed right before he became senator.

Hillary has said she supports keeping soldiers there, and has now reworded it to "a careful/responsible withdrawl". She hasn't changed her position, only the words to describe her position.

Richardson claims he is going to get the soldiers out in 6 months. Its simply not physically possible to remove 160,000 soldiers and their equipment in 6 months.

Kucinich and others claim they will withdraw immediately, but offer no other plan when you ask them "then what?"

Obama claims he is going with a policy of "when we have actionable intelligence we will act" like it is something new, when that is what we already do right now.

In regards to Richardson, the US military is an amazing machine, I believe if anyone can get out of Iraq in 6 months, its them

Obama said he'd do hot pursuits into Pakistan, Bush wont

It is our policy that if we have actionable intelligence regarding Al Qaeda and/or Osama Bin Laden, we act on it. Obama is offering nothing new and is just trying to sound like he will be tough on terrorism. I guarentee if Osama stuck his head out we would chop it off regardless of how pakistan feels about it.

They will not be able to get out in 6 months, period. It is an amazing machine, but Hillary even acknowledged in one of the previous debates it would take at least 1 year to remove all 160,000 soldiers and equipment. We only have so many planes and boats that can carry trucks, tanks, and otherwise. There are hundreds of tanks, bradly, humvees, etc.

A lot of it can be moved to Kuwait and stored there while we use a priority list to get out of Kuwait

I don't think I've seen a military report that it would physically impossible in 6 months to remove all our forces and equipment to Kuwait and beyond

A shiny nickel says the military has a plan if they needed to GTFO of Iraq in 6 months

I bet they can get more than half of them deployed into Iran within 2 weeks.

Removing things rapidly in that manner is asking for hundreds, if not thousands of casualties. You need to be able to protect while pulling out at the same time. There are thousands of civilians in the green zone that need removed, and it will take 10-15k soldiers to protect them. If we bail in that fashion i would also be willing to bet that the current Iraqi security forces would probably not help us with security at all. They will have a "well screw you too" attitude. The already strong hate much of them have for the united states will be amplified.

To me, that makes it impossible to remove our forces in 6 months.

Most estimates to do it right say we can remove 1-2 brigades a month.

Although I've only sit in on a few ROTC classes, and am not a military expert by any means...

From what I've seen of the JAM, 1920, even AQ...

There is no way they'd be able to do us serious harm in a pullout...any sort of "ambush us while we escape" would open themselves up to huge counter strikes that would level them in hours, and we'd be on our way once again

In fact, if the entire militia system came after us as we retreated, it might be the one way we can take them all out in one swoop, as they CAN NOT stand and fight an actual battle with the US armed forces
