Last year we didn't dare travel into the Anbar province. Now we do with fairly little resistance. Thanks again for the great report on progress in Iraq.

Actually we had stations all over Anbar and inside Ramadi and many other Anbar cities, and we had convoys that went inbetween them all the time...we "dared travel" constantly

If our base structure is the same, I don't see why anyone would think it's "great" to celebrate giving free weapons, ammo and money to bribe Marine-killers to win them over, well, some people value other human lives less than others, I'm not in this thread to judge anyone's value system

Yes it has. The funny thing is that they don't see the irony.

Wanting to vilify the Democrats so badly in the wake of the massive Republican failure to accomplish anything meaningful and positive in Iraq after 4 years and the wasted lives of nearly 4000 American soldiers doesn't validate any of the outlandish suggestions made in the original post.

Neither does wishful thinking. Sorry.

His point that Democrats want more US soldiers to die for political reasons is simply wrong, and doesn't hold water except in the minds of people who so loathe the Democrats that any baseless claim which paints them in a bad light is rejoiced over.

No, it hasn't. Dressing up random things going on in Iraq and touting them as "success" is no proving the point at all. In order for Democrats to "hate success" there would have to actually be instances of success...none of which is found here.

we are currently having success in Al Anbar province, that isn't a "random" thing.

So you consider bribing marine killers to be success?

"hey guys, oh you killed a lot of US marines recently, well will you please please stop and we'll give you all sorts of aid"

Really, a shining moment for the US military

I would hesitate to think anyone but the very far left want a military defeat for the country. But I wonder what the priorities are? Is their much more interest in a personal defeat for Bush and Republican (as opposed to Democrat) support for the Iraq invasion than the actual long term consequences? Just think if we do lose Iraq and out of the chaos you have another training camp for Al Qaeda. There will be a very hostile world after Bush leaves office in early 2009. I just hope the other side is as ready and determined to properly deal with that problem as they are with trying to bring down the President? I don't see much sign of that.

For the 100th time, Iraq will never be a training ground for AQ anymore than it was in 2004

Iraqis simply don't like AQ, they are a lot more religious than the neocons who lied to us said they were, but they aren't THAT religious

I don't think that they REALLY want the military to fail, but they want the policies of GW to fail. Because if he fails, they win. So by refusing to believe that the tide has turned in Al Anbar province, it makes GW's policies look bad.

The vast majority of the criticism coming from the left has been about Bush and his inept leadership. The military has performed greatly, the problem is there are no military solutions left in Iraq, only political.. and because Bush fails to recognize that, he's kept our troops in the middle of a civil war between factions that have been going at it for a milennia.

I'm not sure where this "if he fails" notion is coming from. He has already failed, Iraq is a massive failure on pretty much every level. The largest Sunni bloc recently quit the government that we helped create.. what chance is there now of a viable political solution when they'd rather go on vacation to avoid the heat than sit down and work out their problems?

We never said they were religious, we said they weren't complying with UN resolutions

Don't you love how KG has completely ignored the fact that we're arming those who have just got done killing US Marines?

Infact, we are REWARDING them throwing all sorts of funding (really its tribute) at them off because we couldn't defeat them

"millions for defense, but not one cent for tribute"

My how we've become cowards in comparison to our founding fathers

I was wondering this myself.

Bush's policies have already been a failure, as has this war. There will never be a "win" for us in Iraq and people who support the war can't even tell us realistically what a win would look like.

We are just making our next round of bad guys to fight.

The GOP has to have something to run on in 2016.
