Ames Straw-poll this Saturday! Rudy and McCain not on the list

All you need to get into the Ames Strawpoll is an Iowa ID and $25-35 bucks...basically nothing right? Many times a presidential campaign will help bus you in and what not

Anyway the point is, as of now like 40,000 Iowans are signed up for this thing, who knows where it will go, but it's certainly a good indicator of where the PASSION in Iowa is...

Ron Paul supporters this is your chance to get REAL VOTES, not just random telephone polls...all those people from Iowa...anyone supporting Ron Paul can show up, get the ball rolling...if they don't its simply because: They don't support him

Back to the others: This may start a mass drop-out, as the other candidates take the hint (Like Brownback, Huckabee, Hunter, Tommy Thompson, etc) The size of the field, once u throw in fred thompson is really getting ridiculous

McCain is getting 3% in Iowa, and Rudy is losing to Romney, good thing they both dropped out

Mitt will win but by how much? Results are expected by 8 p.m. ET. Chris Cillizza at WaPo says the Romney camp’s shooting for 31%, the same number Bush pulled in 2000, but expectations are already being dampened ahead of the actual vote. If the Paul-bots cut significantly into Mitt’s margin and make a race of it, it’ll be a PR fiasco for Romney. The real intrigue is who takes second and third among Paul, Huckabee, Brownback, Tancredo, Hunter, and Tommy Thompson (Rudy and McCain aren’t competing today). My guess is Brownback and America’s Greatest Patriot, in whichever order; pressure on the others to drop out in the aftermath will be intense, and indeed, Thompson’s already promised to pull the plug if he doesn’t do well.

While we wait, the story at this moment is Paul, whose supporters are the loudest and, perhaps, the dirtiest. Ryan Sager’s got early anecdotal evidence suggesting Paulmania may not be all that it’s cracked up to be, but we’ll know soon enough. Dirty tricks and demagoguery are also de rigueur.

11. John Cox with 41 votes.
10. John McCain with 101 votes.
9. Duncan Hunter with 174 votes.
8. Rudy Giuliani with 183 votes.
7. Fred Thomson with 231 votes.
6. Tommy Thompson, 1,009 votes, 7.3%
5. Ron Paul with 1305 votes, and 9.1%

4. Tom Tancredo with 1961 votes, 13.7%.
3. Sen. Sam Brownback with 2192 votes and 15.3%
2. In a surprise, Gov. Mike Huckabee finished second with 2587 votes at 18.1%
1. Gov Mitt Romney won the 2007 Ames straw poll, receiving 4516 votes, or 31%.

---

Ron Paul loses to Tancredo...and anyone can show up with 35 bucks and a photo ID? pathetic

I think Paul is going to run into the same problems pretty much everywhere with a Republican audience.. they're not concerned about his fiscal responsibility or limited government, he's against Iraq and fairly liberal on social policy.. and the current crop of Republicans love to tell other people how they should be living their lives.

He might do well in a general election, but he has to get beyond the primaries, and it's not looking like he'll get anywhere close at the moment.. maybe he'll run as an Independent? I assume the Libertarian Party would sponsor him, but who knows..

id love RP as an indepedent, but it sure makes all those people talking about how much money he raised, how he was gaining traction...look pretty stupid right about now, as I said in another thread, he place is 5th, but it's more like 8th considering the 3 non-attendants (McCain, F Thompson, and Rudy) and considering those people below him look likely to drop out...he's going to be DEAD LAST of presidential candidates...sad sad sad

He only went to Iowa 3 times, nowhere near the effort that others put out there. I don't see the big deal, 14,000 people in Iowa voted.... whooopeee.

its called...getting the ball rolling...my god no wonder libertarians lose...if 14,000 people vote in the caucus, and Ron Paul places last, are you going to go "oh well only 14,000 people voted"

I mean, talk about the road to failure

He is all about his grassroots Ron Paul libertarians, you have some people on this board saying "everyone i know is voting for him, if he doesnt win the primary its a fraud" and with such popular support, he can't even get better than (really) 8th place when ANYONE IN THE ENTIRE STATE OF IOWA could have shown up with a photo ID and 35 bucks

What, libertarians are too poor, I thought they were smart investor-class people? All the libertarians got stuck working the 24 shift that day...like they do every eleciton day

There simply is no real support for Ron Paul, which is why he is getting 1% in New Hampshire, and he's not going to make a dent...libertarians don't want to donate to causes, even ones they believe in...in fact this entire event should be a primary reason why we never get rid of welfare, because libertarians have proven they'll never donate

So Fox News is only more bias than CNN/NBC/ABC,etc when they don't cover Ron Paul?

It's a serious question
