things like antibiotics need to be prescription because if everyone took them all the time, the resistance would be a public health risk

morning after just kills the sperm before they reach the egg, if the sperm reaches the egg then it would be considered abortion, but since it never fertilizes, you cannot make the claim of abortion.

I wasn't saying that was all, just making an example. Many many drugs could be sold over the counter and I would be fine with it.

yeah i don't think the general public is educated enough nor are they trustworthy enough to make those kinds of decisions on their own. just my opinion though.

I don't know how many of you have actually used PP...but I feel like you guys are leaving some things out when you are discussing how easy it is to obtain BC.

First of all, no BC is free. Nothing...While the costs do vary, even condoms cost something, so you can't just walk into a PP and expect to be handed something. Second of all, to even get an appointment, you either have to have insurance or you have to have proof of income. If you have insurance, at a young age, available to use for PP, most likely you are going through your parents and this isn't an issue to begin with. As for proof of income...a lot of teenages do NOT work, and therefore, have no proof of income. (yes, I know that on the other side there are teenagers that do work..)

Once you make it into the office and get the appointment, its not that easy to obtain BC. They ask a lot of questions, and if the doctors don't earnestly believe that you NEED BC or they don't believe that you have tried hard enough to get family support in getting BC, they will not write out a perscription. If you have a health problem, they will not hand out a perscription unless they can talk to your primary physician. It's not as easy as it seems to get a perscription. Just because women are on BC, doesn't mean they might take it correctly, and it doesn't mean they won't get pregnant. Doctors, even at PP, are not about to hand out BC to just anyone.

There are also costs that have to be taken into account. Yes, BC costs between 12-50 dollars a month. In addition to that, you have to pay for each appointment you take. You have to have an appointment twice a year or they won't give you any more BC and the cost of the appointment ranges from 20-80 dollars. Everytime you go for an appointment, you have to take a pregnancy test, because they don't want you taking BC as a form of an abortion pill. That also costs money.

In other words...obtaining BC isn't as easy as it seems.

we have grown up in a nanny state so your opinion of the public is both expected and fostered by our government

on the contrary, my opinion of the public is out of nothing but experience.

i can't expect them to drive correctly, what makes me think they're going to take drugs properly?

yes and no. By strict definition it doesnt induce an abortion because it doesnt have any effect on an attached egg. But it still keeps a fertilized egg from attaching if taken late.

IUD's do the same thing. And for the most part, teenage girls can get those too. There isn't an upheavel over women having access to them, there shouldn't be an an upheavel for this either.

Oh I agree. I rather have women taking the morning after pill then killing their child. Anything that can make abortions go away is a great thing.
