| Morning After Pill .. Over the Counter? The manufacturer of the morning after pill has requested to allow the drug to be sold over the counter without prescription, except to minors. What does the neocon Bush have to say? He agrees! The conservatives aren't too happy with this saying that repeated uses could be dangerous and even though minors can't get it, they're not supposed to have access to alcohol and cigarettes either. Personally I'm for this. Put a warning on the box. If the woman injures herself, that's her own fault and I won't sympathize. This is a step in the right direction. | ||||

| Holy crap, Bush does something right? The morning after pill isn't abortion anyway, since the whatever hasn't done whatever it has to do to be considered an abortion. Real technical explaination I know.. I personally think this is a good thing. We don't need people who aren't ready for children to have children, and if they can get it over the counter, they're less likely to. Especially considering the GOP has refused to really fund meaningful sex education, instead preferring to rely on "dont have sex", which has proven horribly ineffective. | ||||

| The pharmaceutical lobby must be incredibly powerful to get an "abortion pill" made OTC. I can't believe this just happened (not that having the pills be available OTC is a bad thing). | ||||

| It's not an abortion pill though, it prevents a potential pregnancy from taking root and developing. | ||||

| pretty much all they are is a mega-dose of basic birth control pills depending on the birth control, you can take X amount and do the same thing don't ask how I know but anyways, if you can get BC without prescription this only makes sense - fuck minors can even get BC without parental knowledge in many states | ||||

| I see something wrong in this... A warning on the box is not always enough when you take a potentially harmful drug. While yes, it would be convenient for the morning after pill to reach the OTC market, there are many reasons why the current system is just fine. When taking the morning after pill, you have to obtain a perscription...meaning you have to wait for someone to call the perscription in, and then you have to wait a little more to pick it up. The majority of women taking the morning after pills are individuals not ready to be having a child, or individuals who have made a hasty mistake. (Yes, I have done some studies on this awhile back.) At the moment, not being able to run to the store and grab the package off the shelf, and shove the pills down your throat, gives the individual enough time to learn about the pill and effects it can have on the body. Taking such strong hormones can affect women who have cancer, or who are in remission. The hormones can make tumors grow. They can affect your thyroid. They can affect your digestive system. There are so many things to think about when ingesting something...for some women, you really need to think about whether or not the pill is the right option. (Not that Drano and falling down the stairs is...) I'm not saying that it would be good for women to be running around having children when they are not ready...I just think that making such a strong pill OTC is dangerous. And not making it easily accessible to minors??? What about college students and women in the 20s??? It will be easily accessible to them, and who ever said that women in their 20s are rationable??? Just a thought... And in response to the morning after pill being a form of abortion...That is a personal opinion. Yes, there are certain scientific reasons as to why taking the pill may not be considered abortion, but there are also other sides to the argument. It can take as little as one minute for an egg to become fertilized. You have up to 72 hours to take the morning after pill before it is not effective. While the egg may not be firmly rooted in the uterus, a child has begun to grow. It really is a personal opinion though... | ||||

| I think most of those who do resort to the "MAP" are usually those who break a jimmy hat mid jizz. I can't see it being a method of BC on the side of the bed. They are like $40+ dollars each, and humping and popping one of those each time you screw would get real expensive. | ||||

And women in their 20s rational? Well, this is why sex education needs to be re-vamped. Women have ALL the control here, as we should, and we should be taking that control BEFORE we even take our pants off. | ||||
