So I quit smoking today

Had my last one this afternoon. Patches are paid for and one is stuck on my arm right now.

This is going to be a bitch. I have been a pack-a-day smoker for 15 years.

I picked it up in Iraq, and have quit several times now

I won't smoke for a month and then pick it up for a week and then cycle again

I think the patch is starting to do it's thing. Seems to have taken the edge off a bit.

Drinking is going to be the true test.

No booze for me for a while or I know I will slip.

What's funny is a little book come in the packaging for the patch with an 800 number to call for support. They will be so sick of me by next week.

drinking is usually what triggers it for me, and then I have half a pack the next day, can't let those go to waste now can we

My uncle smoked for 20 years and has quit for 10. When he was quitting he used tooth picks and gum to fill the "something needs to be in my mouth" fettish.

I got over the ritual part since we had the baby and I had to start smoking outside.

For driving I may need something like that though.

Same thing with me, bastards! I started at 15 too, im 24 now so that almost makes 10 years, yikes. I quit for 2 months at the begining of last summer, the initial first month or so they say is the hardest, but it was at the end of the two months that got me. i was far out of the motivation to quit "stage" and i spent every minute of the day longing for a smoke

I finally gave in at a party, i was pretty wasted and couldnt resist.

Im motivating myself up again, so i will be quitting again soon, luckily i dont have friends anymore so no outside temptation!

I started at 13 myself. Remember that you can never 'just have one this time' because you'll start again. I've quit for over 2 years at a time and got myself back into it having that 'one' drunken smoke.

Learned a valuable lesson last night.

Don't put the patch on right before bed. I was up half the night with vivid dreams and my heart trying to beat out of my chest.

The physical addiction isn't as strong as the mental one.

I chain smoked maybe 2 packs a day for maybe 5 years, and quit cold turkey about 2 years ago now. Best decision I ever made.

The first few days are the hardest physicall, just find something else to do when you'd normally smoke..

i quit with no help from a patch or anything. I used to smoke on my way to and from work, while Publius was at work (when he worked at the bookstore), and just about any other time he wasn't with me. I would just have to make sure i showered and brushed my teeth before he got to my house because as far as he knew, i had already quit

once he moved in with me, i had no choice but to really quit because he is always around. i can't get away from him!
