I think he is right when we go to vote we should vote for who ever we think will be the best leader for our country, not just the war, and if he or she is then hopefully the other important problems will be solved along with our help.

Although I agree, I read his comment in the context of a "War time" President, as what a President will be in War, not in the sense of stopping a war.

The value of war time Presidency seems more offensive than defensive, or at least that was how I read it.

I'm for "out of Iraq immediately" and thought a majority of democrats were as well. We found out different since last November.

The next antiwar democrat I hear mutter something vague about next April,
I'm gonna hire one of those pie-in-the-face felllows.

Our next leader, Rep or Dem, will continue our involvement in that mess regardless what he or she is saying now, I strongly suspect.

And if anyone sees a "good leader among the current group of either party, I wish you'd kindly not keep so quiet about it, we're all looking for that person too.

Colin comes to mind but he's tainted from having hung around too long out of loyalty and claims he won't run, same for Condoleeza.

She's secretary of state and chief military advisor before that. So it's not like she's plucked off the streets leadershipwise.

I think many of you don't realize the situation we have in Iraq right now. I agree we need to be out of Iraq. I am in the military after all and have to deploy there. However, we need to have a good plan for it, which is something neither Dems or Republicans have come up with. There CANNOT be a time table, especially not one that is published for everyone to see. How do you think that will look to our enemies? I am personally sick and tired of ANY media outlets that give out military secrets. Something which I have seen way too much of being in the military. The lives we have lost just from this alone I probably couldn't count.

I agree with bob that I see no viable candidates for election this year at all. Once I seem to make up my mind my guy says something stupid and unacceptable and I end up changing my mind.

The debate about the minorities is a good one. There is definately a gender bias in this country. Not quite sure what in the long run can be done about it. I think many times women don't understand how us men think. And that could definately go a long way toward helping us out in that area. As for racism, yes, that is something that will always be around. You can never end it. Being in the military I have become quite used to working/living in a very diverse environment with blacks/hispanics/asians/you name it. I have no problems in that regard. I guess my opinion in that situation is that many times the minorities don't help themselves! Meaning they seem to try to make an issue where there really isn't one. Or they end up acting like a gangster so that obviously people don't like them and they somehow make it into a racism issue. I'm sure I will somehow be labelled as a racist even as I write this, because people that speak up are always seen in that light first. Many times the minorities are racist themselves! Nothing is ever said about that though because like I said, they would be a racist if they spoke up!
