He placed 5th in Iowa (really 8th considering Thompson was unannounced, and McCain/Rudy withdrew) where all you needed was an ID card and 35 bucks...many of them were paid for Romney

Seriously, if he is scoring so low that he he's losing to Tancredo, Brownback, etc...his campaign sucks...hardcore

There was also a "voting machine tabulation malfunction" that had to be "corrected" by the county auditor, coincidentally a very active Romney campaign member.

Paul got 9.1%, so while it was 5th it was still miles above Tommy Thompson's1.4%, Fred Thompson's 1.4%, Giuliani's 1.3%, Hunter's 1.2%, and McCain and Cox's less than 1%. Even though they "sat it out" you'd think Giuliani and McCain would do better simply by virtue of being considered major candidates.

Further, Romney only managed a little over 30% against a whole host of "second tier" candidates, yet he spent well over $1 million in TV ads in the lead-up to the Iowa straw poll.

I hardly call it a disappointing result for the 2nd tier candidates, Paul or any of the others, given the circumstances surrounding the poll (run and "verified" by a Romney campaign member).

Seriously, he did pretty good considering the amount of support he has in IA. This whole "polls are biased against RP"/"The poll was rigged" thing that people spout whenever RP does worse than they'd like is silly. If he isn't doing as good as you'd like you (not you personally, a collective you) need to get out there and get his message out. Pretending that he is doing better than he actually is will only lead to disappointment when the primaries come and he only gets 3-10% of the vote.

The writing is on the wall. He needs to kick it up another notch. Pretending he is really getting his message out there (beyond the internet) isn't productive.

Good post, bolded the points I really agree with...

Listen, I'm not out here to try and make anyone who has had a libertarian thought feel bad

But it's getting a little annoying to see people talk about how Ron Paul has been gaining steam (for MONTHS) and then the excuses start flying when the latest poll, or the ames thing just now...the same thing will happen when the caucus results come in...and then NH...and then it'll be "oh the whole thing was rigged"

I love the whole "we didn't do iowa" thing, like gees, any other primary states an underdog wants to SKIP? Is NH your state, if u fuckup there can we officially call it dead?

I saw an interview just the other day where RP admits that the internet fame is flattering, but without people putting on their walking shoes and physically going to places to vote, it amounts to very little.

But gaining as much notoriety as possible is good too. If his name becomes a household one, then he'll have a chance. Too many people still don't know who he is, and that's exacerbated by the media outlets simply not even mentioning his performance in polls and debates (eg., the other thread where they leave him out completely and mention people who didn't do as well).
