| How is he a fall guy? It's Cheney and Bush who are responsible, always has been He left the WH in disgrace not because of any criminal activity (which im 99% sure of) but because he became a failure...2006 was a disaster and every GOP candidate is trying to distance themselves from the man Karl Rove crafted for decades, he is utterly defeated | ||||

| What about that Judiciary Committee Subpoena? He's a major target of the "prosecutor firing" probe! Can he take executive priviledge with him? There's a twist! Tells the committee to "stick it"? No longer on Bush's team therefore too uninteresting, invitation withdrawn? Any reason to lie? Maybe ask for immunity? Spill major beans? And, therein, without doing anything else, hel takes some pressure off George, for awhile anyway. If he can stretch this out until fall that will help. It was exactly the same time of year twentythree years ago that the roof caved in on RMN. A different atmosphere in the fall seams to change the focus of what's hot. Right now, the hearings are hot, later in the year the Iraq prospectus will push this business to the back burner. Less headlines could equate to less effort to force compliance Somewhere among the above lies the real reason for taking the powder. In comedy and politics, timing is everything (I didn't invent that expression, and I don't reiterate it here for laughs; it just seem oddly appropriate). Move over football and pennant chases, there could be a better game coming to town this fall. goldenponderbob | ||||

| This may actually be a very good sign that the Bush Whitehouse let him go now instead of waiting for the Fall Congressional break. Perhaps they have even more confidence in the September Iraq Report and how well it will go over in the Congress than we know? | ||||

| For Patrick Lahey to insist that Rove is no longer protected by "executive priviledge when he leaves, and is therefore subject to the Judiciary Commitee's subpoena, he must first concede that Rove once had it. Can't lose what you never had. That concession would then protect the other subpoena recipients, which the committee wants as much or more than Rove, unless they lose their jobs. Executive priviledge is a thing Lahey absolutely cannot admit exists. Wow! | ||||

| OK, you got me on that one. I had no idea. ![]() If anything he helped Muskie not look like such a dweeb: "Other dirty tricks in Florida included a naked girl running through Muskie's hotel claiming that she was in love with the Democratic contender. Segretti's agents, posing as Muskie supporters, telephoned voters in the middle of the night asking them to support their candidate." | ||||
