Anyone see the Red Sox game last night?

Man that is what baseball is all about. Bottom of the 9th inning, Down by one, game is on the line. last chance.. Mike Lowell belts a clutch solo home run to tie the game and keep hope alive. In a few minutes there would be 2 outs, game tied, 1-1 with Varitek the captain coming up to the plate... blam! a big drive into the outfield resulting in a ground rule double... that puts him in scoring position. The home team crowd is on it's feet. The game is really on the line and thier lead in the AL east is starting to dwindle. The Yankees were getting shelled and a victory would increase the lead 5 games. Coco Crisp steps up to the plate.. the count starts to fill up... wack! a line drive single to right field. Varitek takes off. Hes really hauling. He rounds third, the throw comes towards home plate... NOT IN TIME! the SOX WIN!

It almost brings a tear to your eye.

As much as I want to, I just can't bring myself to enjoy watching baseball.

You really have to be invested in your home team, or some team to get into it. I never watch a game with 2 teams I don't care about. It's booring. I have to have something invested in the outcome. IE relegating the yankees to the wildcard or better, keeping them out of the playoffs all together And of course, watching the Sox win another world series

Well, my local team is the Texas Rangers, so it's hard to get invested in a minor league team that is for some reason playing in the majors.

It's just a slow paced sport, and that bores me. Same with football... Hockey has spoiled slower sports for me.

I think it's about the anticipation. Kinda like a suspense thriller. There is alot of standing around with short bursts of crazy activity. It's got a little bit of everything. It's got man vs man contests of skill, displays of speed and power. It has levels of team coordination where everyone has to instantly know what to do and work together.
To me the sports like basketball, hockey and soccer are booring. It's alot of people all running back and forth and nothing ever happens. The constant action with no change in outcome seems sort of pointless. Basket ball for the opposite reason.. there are so many scores that each point scored looses it's significance. With Hockey and soccer it's just back and forth with nothing of consequence happening. scores of 1-0 and 2-1 are common.

It's just my personal preferance really. Some people dislike baseball for the exact reasons that I cite for liking it.

i'm a sox fan, not really a baseball fan like you lou. i couldnt' really care about two teams that I don't pay attention to. i mean if its coming down to the wire with postseason then i pay attention, but mid season, I could care less, except the spankees of course.

I grew up playing soccer and running track, never really "watched" either sport though. never got into basketball, just went to my first celtics games with an ex at the beginning of the year. although the celtics suck and i didn't like basketball, going to the games itself were fun.
never liked football until I started working at gillette stadium 6 years ago and then I got into it. still more of a sox fan, but i can enjoy watching a football game now.

hockey I can take it or leave it as far as watching it is concerned, but I did just join a hockey league and i start tonight!

loving baseball is more of a pasttime than a sport because of how involved the fan gets. there's more to pay attention to since it's happening throughout the week, instead of just on sundays like football, especially for boston fans.
it is slow paced like an enjoyable pastime, and then every once in a while you get riled up to a point of complete excitement and it becomes that much more enjoyable....

Nebraska hooked up the Yankees with a new pitcher. His name is Joba Chamberlain... lead NU in to the CWS when he was here.

I still think pitching will be thier downfall this year. They don't have enough of it. The Sox have Matsuzaka, Becket, Schilling ( i hope ), and a few other decent guys to start, and they have Paplebon who has been completely lights out as a closer and they just picked up gagne as an additional closer. That's some serious heat coming out of the bullpen.
The yankees have Musina and rivera as far as all star pitchers. Thats not enough to get very far into a post season.

we could just have had another fantastic comeback and Manny fucked it up.

It is amazing when I watch the highlight reals on ESPN for the day how many talented players came from the Indians farm system or have played for the Indians previously. You'll see Coco hit a homer, then Brian Giles had 3 hits, then Richie Sexson also had a homer, etc. Not to mention Manny himself. Makes you sick to see all the talent that has come out of this city.
