Gen. Petreaus big report is going to written by the White House; can't trust a word

Despite Bush's repeated statements that the report will reflect evaluations by Petraeus and Ryan Crocker, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, administration officials said it would actually be written by the White House, with inputs from officials throughout the government.

Will any of you believe his report as being non-partisan and objective...following not only Petraeus's visits on right-wing radio shows to rally the conservatives, but his duty as morale booster for the US military (can't go telling your own troops that we're fighting as a failure), servant to the commander in chief, etc etc

On top of this, the damn thing is GOING TO BE WRITTEN BY THE BUSH WHITE HOUSE

It's going to say exactly what you expcet the Bush admin would have it say. That the going is tough, that we are making progress, that the surge is working, that we can win, and that most of all, we need more time.

I think the report will be done well and correct... I think the coverage of that report however, will be complete bullshit. Fox and the administration will not speak of political progress (none) because it will make them look bad. In other words i think we could probably trust the report but not those analyzing it for us... like Tony Snow, Bush, and Sean Hannity.

The White House responded to Emanuel's statement Wednesday, arguing the report will have input from the U.S. military and diplomatic leaders on the ground in Iraq before it is submitted to Congress.
"It's unfortunate that someone would impugn the reputations of General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker," deputy White House secretary Dana Perino told ABC News. "We are confident these men of incredible integrity will speak as candidly to the members of congress as they do to the president, just as they did in July for that report."

"If you read the legislation, it sets out clearly how this works, which means input from [Defense Secretary Robert] Gates, [State Department Secretary Condoleezza] Rice, [U.S. Mideast Commander Admiral William] Fallon, [U.S. Military Commander in Iraq General David ]Petraeus and [U.S. Ambassador in Iraq Ryan] Crocker, then the President submits it, after Petraeus and Crocker testify," said Gordon Johndroe, spokesperson for the National Security Council.

Even they admit that the WH submits the report, and only takes into account Petraeus...they could put him in for a single sentence

Hannity has been using the catch-phrase "winnable war" since all of the neoconservative radio hosts were called back to the White House a couple of weeks ago to receive their new propaganda talking points directly from Bush himself. It's laughable that Hannity and other neoconservatives can try to paint the picture that we're winning in in Iraq whenever we capture some terrorist 'master-mind' who will just be replaced next week by one of the millions of others our polices have helped create over there. Over 250 civilians died on Tuesday in Iraq, yet we're winning the war because Bush and his cronies say so.

The Democrats have been fighting any kind of encouraging news that comes out of Iraq. Actually, they fight any kind of encouraging news that comes out of our country all together.

They have to stay negative. They need an angry voter base so they can get votes. And if they admit things are going better in Iraq, the economy is good, low unemployment is good etc, they fear they will lose votes.

It's a shitty place to be but it's their only game plan.

I am inclined to agree with you that that may be the Democrat strategy but one thing I want to point out independent of whatever their motivations are- encouraging news does not necessarily mean winning news.

If two people are on the road to a messy divorce but then become a little less bitter, that is encouraging but the divorce will still happen. Encouraging news means nothing if we are still on the road to losing this war or being in the middle of a civil war.
