Worst attack of the Occupation, 250+ Iraqis killed in one town

BAGHDAD - Emergency workers and grieving relatives uncovered dozens of bodies in the wreckage of clay houses in northwest Iraq on Wednesday, sending the death toll from suicide truck bombings of a small Kurdish sect to at least 250 — the war's deadliest attack on a single area.

I thought large attacks were shrinking? Anyway, horrible news...at the peak of our surge, we're having the worst attack in our occupation's history

U.S. officials believe extremists are attempting to regroup across northern Iraq after being driven from strongholds in and around Baghdad, and commanders have warned they expected Sunni insurgents to step up attacks in a bid to upstage the report

This was expected to happen because of the progress reports. It's sad it happened. This was probably done for the very purpose this thread was made... to break the will of Americans and to bring doubts to any positives in an Iraqi report. These people likely died so Americans can sit at home in their comfy chairs and cast doubts on military commanders in Iraq. I doubt this will be the last such attack leading up to the progress reports.

I never claimed he was unamerican or concerned about our troops. That's not for me to decide. What I said was it is my belief that this thread and the media sensationalism of this event is why the event was conducted. It was done as a planned propaganda tool by al Qaeda to influence the conservative vs liberal battle in the US just before the progress report is to be released. This thread symbolizes why these people were murdered.

The media, blogs, forums, and gossip in America will be discussing the "largest" and "worst" attack in Iraq just a couple weeks before the progress report, which is intended to skew the overall picture in Iraq and force us to leave. The fact that they got to kill some Kurds was just icing on the cake for them.

skew what? the good news? why is it that the non-mainstream media (read: fox news) aren't reporting the good news either?

Putting words in my mouth doesn't make them true. This is the second time this has happened in this thread.

All I've said was that this would be used by many political groups and followers in this country to symbolize Iraq come the time the progress reports are released. That's why this event was carried out, and it probably won't be the last such attack done for that purpose.

Yes, it's called reading the news

. Our commanders on the ground have been saying they've received information that leads them to believe that attacks like this would escalate coming up to the progress report. As the article in the OP points out, this was expected.

Since I don't speak Arabic and don't speak directly to al Qaeda the only thing I can go by is the overwhelming media reports all reporting the same thing. However, my posts are in English.

US commanders have been citing progress in the occupation ever since it started, when have you heard ANY active US commander publically state "We're going backwards, the US military is doing the opposite of progress"

It's never been done, so why should 4 years of "progress" be news now? Because statistics show otherwise and the GOP was about to split in half?

It's all about saving the GOP, nothing to do with facts...because there are not statistics and facts to support anything to do with the surge

Constantly and is often followed by their replacement. I think I can find quite a few threads on this forum that you've made regarding this issue.

I don't think he is. But the bad guys are smart enough to know that when they can do some big time numbers, killing wise, liberals lwill make sure everyone knows about it.

It's all over the news as it should be. It's a major event in the world and we should all know about it. However, we should also be informed of how and why it happened.
