| Anyone got a reaching chair/sofa that is particularly suited for reading? I just won some money in AC so I thought instead of reading on my bed, I might get a reading chair or sofa for my apartment...nothing TOO comfortable because I'll fall asleep...nothing TOO rigid as I'll be uncomfortable I generally read graduate level texts 4-8 hours a day, I'd like something where...besides food and bathroom, I'd not need to go anywhere else to read Yes my apartment is very quiet, usually as much as the library I've been looking at IKEA | ||||

| I don't find IKEA furniture to be very comfortable. I'd guess what you want is something you can spend some time in, but isn't a mal-formed bed. Is there not a La-Z-Boy store near you where maybe you can go just sit in the chairs til you find one that suits you? We have one near here and when I pass it it looks like it's just chairs set up for testing wall to wall. | ||||

| No, there are just advanced books out there than aren't "light reading" Amazon.com: Rites of Peace: The Fall of Napoleon and the Congress of Vienna: Books: Adam Zamoyski Would be like one of five books you'd have to start and finish by the end of the week In medical schools, we're talking medical textbooks, law schools, we're talking about casebooks, etc etc Anyway, I'm really used to reading either on: A Bed A wooden library chair I don't know if a lazyboy is better than a sofa or what not...but I have read on a comfortable sofa once at UPenn and I really enjoyed it Thought maybe someone here know through themselves or friends...of a nice "reading furniture" | ||||

| I mentioned La-Z-Boy because my grandfather reads a lot and that's what he reads in. He found one that he thought was very comfortable, got himself a reading lamp and a small table to put next to it to hold drinks and books, and that's where he can usually be found. | ||||

| Just as a tip, reading in bed without the prerequisite of going to sleep shortly isn't a good idea. You shouldn't make a habit of using your bed as a place where your mind is active. | ||||

| I have to agree with the above, that Ikea furniture is not necessarily comfortable because the majority of the chairs/sofas do not have support for your neck. However, when we first moved into our house we bought this chair like whoa because it was pretty multi-purpose and filled a lot of empty space for us until we furnished more permanently. It's called a Poang. The chair is structured and has a little bit of bounce to the seat. However, I don't think that it's comfortable enough for you to fall asleep in because it is an upright. Just an idea. IKEA | Fabric sofas & armchairs | Armchairs | POÄNG | ||||

I bet those chairs that have a back and two sides and then come straight out long are comfortable to read in... I have no idea what they're called, but I see them in a few homes of gay people I know and they love them. It's about as long as a couch, but you sit longways across it... | ||||

| Or train your brain to recognize reading as an activity that precedes sleep. I used to do that so much that I get sleepy now every time I read. | ||||

| Similar, but not the same. I just didn't phrase it well. You said he shouldn't read in bed because it can train his mind to be alert in bed instead of sleeping. I said he shouldn't read in bed because it can train his mind to fall asleep when reading instead of being alert. Both good reasons not to read in bed. I fell victim to the 2nd one. | ||||
