| He said he'd push for legislation making emissions equal to that of midsize cars which is going to basically eliminate the SUV as we know it. Power levels would have to drop to such anemic levels that the entire purpose of the vehicle would be gone. You can't lug around a 5400lb Tahoe on a 140hp I4 and expect it to last any time at all and you'd not be able to tow anything. | ||||

That would totally screw over our entire trucking transportation industry link?

Again he said he would push and help author if necessary a bill cutting SUV emissions to that of the midsize sedan. The question becomes what does he view as "necessary"?

Todays vehicles have double the power with about half the emissions pretty damn impressive if you ask me. You drag around a 5200 to 5400lb tahoe with 150hp and it would totally suck not to mention your towing capacity would be almost nil.

| He didn't say he "thought" they should, he didn't say he would "help" get them there he said he legislate it...you can't just flip on a switch and say get 35mpg. It doesn't work like that. | ||||

| With all the advancing hybrid technology, who wouldn't want to help leisure SUVs get better emission standards? Legislation can set goals, it doesn't have to set a firm time-table | ||||

Max tow capacity is apparently 3500lbs as well, but I'm not going to test that.

My father in law had a 1994 4runner for about 12 years. Ran like a tank but about all you could successfully tow was 3000ish to 3500lbs, after that it was nearly impossible to maintain any speed on the highway.
