Hillary's unfortunate fundraising

The other day the story broke about Hsu illegally donating money in the name of third parties.

Basically Hsu is a criminal who should be in jail, yet manages to somehow stay out by paying off Democratic politicians.
Los Angeles Times: Top of the Ticket: Politics, coast to coast, with the L.A. Times
The Los Angeles Times reports on this website tonight and in Wednesday's print editions that a major Democratic Party fundraiser named Norman Hsu is wanted by authorities for skipping out on an agreement to serve up to three years in prison after pleading no contest to grand theft swindling charges.

In a story by Chuck Neubauer and Robin Fields, The Times reports that for three years Hsu has been carving out a place of political and financial influence by funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions into Democratic Party coffers, much of the money earmarked for Sen. Hillary Clinton. He has earned the ranking of Hillraiser for pledging to raise at least $100,000 for her.

In just the last 36 months Hsu has been involved in raising more than $1 million for Clinton and other Democrats. Howard Wolfson, a spokesman for the Clinton campaign, confirmed today that Hsu had been a "longtime and generous supporter" of the party including Clinton. "We have no reason to call his contributions into question or to return them," Wolfson added.

Hsu has developed a specialty of bundling hefty campaign contributions from obscure citizens who live modest lives and have never before given money to campaigns. Many are not even registered to vote.
The Los Angeles Times will report on this website later tonight and in Wednesday’s print editions that a major Democratic Party fundraiser named Norman Hsu is wanted by authorities for skipping out on an agreement to serve up to three years in prison after pleading no contest to grand theft swindling charges.

In an exclusive story by Chuck Neubauer and Robin Fields, The Times will report that for three years Hsu has been carving out a place of political and financial influence by funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions into Democratic Party coffers, much of the money earmarked for Sen. Hillary Clinton. He has earned the ranking of Hillraiser for pledging to raise at least $100,000 for her.
When his home state was contacted for further information this was the response:
“He is a fugitive,” said Ronald Smetana of the California attorney general’s office. “Do you know where he is?”
It doesn't just end there. Yesterday another story broke of criminals donating to the Clinton campaign.
abdul+rehman+jinnah.JPG (image)
His FBI wanted poster basically states he's been arrested for illegal campaign contributions and conspiracy.
Here she is with her criminal buddy...

And let's not forget the whole Peter Paul thing that sprung up a few months ago as well. I understand Hillary has no problems accepting money from lobbyists and such, but at what point do ethics come into play? It looks like she'll take money from just about anyone...

Yeah she'll take money from almost anyone, considering basically anyone can donate

When you're dealing with millions of dollars, it's nearly impossible to do a thorough background check (not that they'd even consent, I wouldn't)

What you to do is, when you find out they've done something wrong, you give the money to charity, just like Hillary did

so high five to Hillary

Actually when the Hsu story first broke she there no reason to give it back. Only after it got a lot of attention and was going to hurt her campaign did she give some away some of the money from Hsu.

That's not an act of morality. That's just more of the usual self-serving unethical crap we expect from Hillary.

According to the Wall Street Journal:
Beyond his $23,000 in personal contributions to Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Hsu had raised well over $1 million for the New York senator's presidential campaign, making him one of her top 20 "bundlers.
And she donated $23k of that "well over $1 million" to charity. She only gave back $23k of his money after the the media broke the story that Hsu pleaded no contest to a grand theft charge, agreed to accept up to three years in prison, failed to show up for a sentencing hearing, and then disappeared.

In response Hillary now is willing to agree the person is dirty (go figure) and gave back 2% of his campaign donations to charity.

Clinton Donor Under a Cloud in Fraud Case

By MIKE McINTIRE and LESLIE WAYNE
Published: August 30, 2007
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign said yesterday that it would give to charity $23,000 it had received from a prominent Democratic donor, and review thousands of dollars more that he had raised, after learning that the authorities in California had a warrant for his arrest stemming from a 1991 fraud case.

The donor, Norman Hsu, has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Democratic candidates since 2003, and was slated to be co-host next month for a Clinton gala featuring the entertainer Quincy Jones.
The event would not have been unusual for Mr. Hsu, a businessman from Hong Kong who moves in circles of power and influence, serving on the board of a university in New York and helping to bankroll Democratic campaigns.
But what was not widely known was that Mr. Hsu, who is in the apparel business in New York, has been considered a fugitive since he failed to show up in a San Mateo County courtroom about 15 years ago to be sentenced for his role in a scheme to defraud investors, according to the California attorney general’s office.
Mr. Hsu had pleaded no contest to one count of grand theft and was facing up to three years in prison.

they are reviewing the rest... they never said that was the only money they would be giving back

Which is a cop-out. The original amount in question by the media was far more than $23k. "We'll give some money back now and promise to look at the rest..." Yea right.

So you're telling me if I gave a $4,000 donation to Hillary, and done it through a fund-pitch done by a guy name Hsu, my money isn't going to be forced into charity because I did nothing wrong?

Which is a cop-out. The amount in question of the articles broke in the media totaled FAR more than $23,000. Why the small amount? Because she's not willing to give back all the dirty money.

Clinton to Give Away Fundraiser's Cash - Forbes.com
Clinton campaign spokesman Phil Singer said the $23,000 included contributions from Hsu to Clinton's presidential campaign, her Senate re-election and her political action committee. The campaign did not plan to return any money Hsu raised from other donors, Singer said.
He made over $1 million in illegal third party donations to Clinton and the Clinton campaign has no intentions of giving any of the dirty money back.

It isn’t obvious how the Paw family is able to afford such political largess. Records show they own a gift shop and live in a 1,280-square-foot house that they recently refinanced for $270,000. William Paw, the 64-year-old head of the household, is a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service who earns about $49,000 a year, according to a union representative. Alice Paw, also 64, is a homemaker. The couple’s grown children have jobs ranging from account manager at a software company to “attendance liaison” at a local public high school. One is listed on campaign records as an executive at a mutual fund…

The Paws’ political donations closely track donations made by Norman Hsu, a wealthy New York businessman in the apparel industry who once listed the Paw home as his address, according to public records. Mr. Hsu is one of the top fund-raisers for Mrs. Clinton’s presidential campaign. He has hosted or co-hosted some of her most prominent money-raising events…
They managed to donate $45k to Hillary Clinton... Not bad for a man who only makes $49k a year and had to recently refinance his home. Yet his donations match the same exact date as other Hsu donations, and Hsu has used that home address in the past. This is the story that broke in the media. The Hsu money is fraud money. It's more illegal campaign donations, like many other donations she's received in the past. She has been made aware of this and has no intentions of doing anything with the fraudulent money other than to keep it.

...
Kent Cooper, a former disclosure official with the Federal Election Commission, said the two-year pattern of donations justifies a probe of possible violations of campaign-finance law, which forbid one person from reimbursing another to make contributions.

So Hillary organized a fraud with the Paw family? She should have went to their house with a few pages of forms so she could demand they document their family background so she could understand their donation 100%...infact she should do that to everyone who donates
