Kind of like my experience. My car died while going down the road so I pulled off. I had just been to Subway picking up lunch. The car just wouldn't start back up . I called AAA and they sent a tow truck to pick me up. While I was waiting a cop pulled up behind me and asked if I was ok or needed a ride anywhere. I told him I had already called and a tow truck was on the way. I said, "I have half a foot long sub and almost all of an extra large drink left, so I should be good for anouther few hours at least until I might need rescuing." He laughed and said he would be later to make sure the tow truck came.

Hell, even when I got a ticket in March the cop couldn't have been nicer about it. The little prick.

I have had some questionable experiences but nothing like this guy.

Once I was pulled over for no reason. Well, there was a reason, but not a legit one. The cop saw my radar detector. I was driving in traffic and the flow was well under the speed limit. maybe 40mph in a 55 zone. Cop pulls out follows me. Pulls me over and does the usual licence and registration stuff.
Cop: " do you know why I pulled you over?" god what a stupid question.
Me: No officer I don't.

Cop: "That radar detector you have up there... It's an obstruction of view. "

Me: "I'm sorry officer I didn't know that. Is there some place I can put it where it won't cause a problem? "

Cop: "Well if you don't speed you don't need it right?"

Me: " Um. I guess"

Cop: " Take that thing down"

Me: " yes sir"

I take it down, he gives me back my info. I drive away.. and then put it back up. Never had any trouble since then.

Actually one time I got pulled over, searched, patted down, the whole 9 yards. The reason was a little tenuous but I could see where they were coming from... I had pulled out of my apartment complex and the kid that lived in the apartment above me flagged me down as he was walking into the complex. So I stopped and he asked me if I had a light for his ciggarette which I did. So I handed him my lighter, he lit his ciggarette and handed it back to me. I drove off.
From the cops perspective, they saw a car pull up, stop and a person walk up to the car, hand something back and forth and then drive off. I guess it looked like a drug deal or something. I'll give them that.

So they followed me for a bit and then pulled me over. Started asking me questions about where I lived and such and about what I was doing why I stopped for the kid. I guess they didn't buy my story so they had me out of the car emptying my pockets, patting me down etc. They searched my car and kept claiming that they smelled weed and stuff. There was no weed in my car, never has been. So I'm not sure why they were claiming they they smelled it. Maybe to cover thier asses for the search. I consented to it anyway, so I dunno. It was strange. After a while they realized I had nothing and that they had made a mistake and they let me go.

That's about the worst thing I can come up with.

I did get pulled over another time when I had my Ninja. About 4 of us were riding and a cop pulled us over. He walked over to me and said "There was a chase this morning with a red bike like yours and a few officers. He got away so we are still looking for him. I made a call as I was pulling you over to ask about helmet color. His was white, yours isn't. Sorry about that." He proceeded to talk to us for a good 30 minutes about our bikes and his station hopefully getting bikes one day so he could patrol on motorcycle. He was really cool.

Yes this is an extreme case, ..., but arrogant anger at having attempts to establish command presence disrupted is the norm in my experience. Its best to be excessively compliant.

Right from the get-go Brett gives the cop 'lip'

" Officer #1: How we doin? What's going on?
Brett: Nothing.
Officer #1: Why you parkin here?
Brett: Can't I park here? It's a commuter lot right?"

It doesnt matter that Brett had the constituion on his side or whatever.

The cop is clearly particularly crap at his job & deserves to have the book thrown at him etc, ..., not least coz if your going to fit someone up theres no need to tell them so beforehand.

It seems that Brett near enough set this all up anyway. I'd like to see how his relationship with the local cops proceeds.

One wonders hopw swiftly a report of a breakin at his home would be.

I'll not bother with accounts of my idiocy with cops stories, ..., but its a shame that 'the cleric' aint still here coz he, apparently, was once beaten up by cops when very drunk, ..., no surprise there then, possibly

I've dealt with one asshole cop and one good cop...

The good cop, I was on my way to school and running late, so I was going about 75mph in a 60mph zone. Didn't see him, he pulls me over, asks why I'm in a hurry after he gets my license and insurance. I tell him I'm running late for class, he nods and scribbles out the ticket and hands me my stuff back, then says if I go to court he'll make sure it gets dropped.

I go to court, he doesn't show up, so the city of Dallas dropped the case on insufficient evidence. Nothing on my record, no court fees, nothing. And since he wrote the ticket quickly, I still managed to make it to class on time despite being stopped by a cop. That cop rocked.

The other time was when I was still in high school... I was driving my friend home from the Friday portion of a debate tournament at like 11:15, and we had to be back at the tournament at 8am the next morning. I wanted to get to bed as soon as possible because I was exhausted, so I was going 50mph in a 40mph zone.

At the time I drove a Trans Am, and this riced out Civic comes up next to me revving his engine at me and shit. I ignore him, but then the Civic slams on his brakes and peels off onto a side street. I kinda go but keep driving, my speed hadn't varied the entire time. A couple of seconds later, cop's lights come on behind me.

The fucker says I was racing and hits me with a ticket for speeding and racing. I tell him I wasn't racing and explain why I was speeding, he demands I get out of the car and has me walk around to the back of the car with him. He has the balls to say, "I notice you seem to have something wrong with your arm [referring to my right arm, which I have limited use of], you sure you should be driving period?" It took all the self-control I had not to go off on him.

I filed a complaint with the department about the cop, last I heard (about 3 years ago) he'd actually been taken off the force due to numerous complaints about fabrication of traffic violations. I ended up going to court for that ticket too. The judge threw out the racing charge when I explained the situation to him and gave me deferred adjudication on the speeding.

i got into an accident last night

I was driving to hockey and I was stopped dead in traffic and got rear ended. the woman hit me so hard she made me hit the car in front of me.

lovely mass laws make me liable for the damage to the car in front of me even though I was at a dead stop.

went to the hospital to get checked out because my neck and right wrist were hurting. they took xrays, said i should be fine, gave me 600mg of Ibuprofen and sent me on my way. they said today and tomorrow i'm going to be in a lot of pain, but i should be okay after that.

lovely.

and now car insurance bullshit on my pretty subaru.

MA has some crazy no fault laws and insurance policies. For a while the state actually dictated how much the insurance companies could charge. I'm not sure how much of that still takes place.

So do I.

I saw the video last night on Fox. It was horrible! It looked like the cop was trying to bait the guy into doing or saying something so he could arrest him. I have seen this before by cops in my wild youth! I am careful not to always side with cops.

Wow, this is completely nuts. I can't believe this cop. That is fucking scary as shit. I also can't believe the second cop didn't step in during one of the first cop's ramblings about all the shit he's going to take the guy to jail for and tell him he needs to stop.

I'm simply aghast.
At least he wasn't in Troy Missouri. He would have just been shot in the back of the head and a suicide called in. The officer that did THAT, by the way, was acquitted.

The police are out of control, plain and simple. They're no longer members of the community, chatting and munching on donuts in the corner diner. They're now faceless patrol cars, where everyone taps their brakes in fear, even if they're not speeding. When a cop pulls you over, you have to worry about if he's going to plant something on you, if he's going to write you a ticket to increase the local coffers, or if he's just really having a bad day and is going to blow your brains out when you accidentally sneeze on him.

People accuse me of being off my rocker when it comes to the police. I'd think so too, if I hadn't been told by a cop after I got off work one night "look, kid, I was born at night, but not LAST NIGHT!" when he asked where I was going, and told him "home- I just got off work" (which was true). I've been pulled over and TICKETED for driving without lights on in the rain when it wasn't raining, for driving too long in the left lane when I was about to make a left turn to go toward my house (and I wasn't holding up traffic or anything either), and numerous other idiotic reasons. I've also been threatened with bodily harm and property damage if I didn't come out of my house "to talk", even though the police were in plain clothes and showed no arrest warrant (it was an issue with my ex-wife).

My step dad was a cop, too. He was a good guy, right down to his core. Most cops ARE good people, doing a good job. The problem is there are enough bad apples that aren't weeded out that it makes it worse for everyone.

I have a little inside scoop about the kid in this story. He is a complete and total DOUCHE. He was on my car forum (before he got permabanned) and he told us the story about when that whole "I got assaulted by an off duty cop" happened. His story was completely full of shit and that wasn't even his first run-in with the cops. He goes out SEEKING this confrontation from the police. This was no exception. I have no doubt that he planned this whole thing out. I do agree that the cop was out of line...but I also know the person involved is a total piece of shit.

The kid might be a total douche, but the fact remains that from the video (where you can hear both the kid and the cop), the cop is out of line. The cop could have done the same thing to someone else who is a mass murderer (the cop doesn't know about that in this example) and he'd STILL be out of line. There's no reason for a cop to say he'll make shit up to arrest someone.

If he was an asshole, which I wouldn't be surprised.. then he deserved what was coming to him. But this was more than that and doesn't make up for the unethical actions of the police. Throw the book at him if he did something wrong. Follow him home. Give him a ticket for 1mph over the limit to force him to take a day off work to go to court, etc. But don't don't threaten him with crimes he didn't commit.

Cops use deception all the time to do their jobs. It's legal. Look at the REST of the facts in the case:

1: This kid has a HISTORY of ridiculous run-ins with the police.
2: He just so happened to have a bunch of audio and camera equipment in HIS car and just so happened to be alone in a parking lot in the middle of nowhere for no reason at all with this cop?
3: When you give a cop attitude that is instigation. He had LEGIT reasons to speak to the kid and got attitude. All it did was escalate from there.

I say the cop has fault in this incident but I have no doubt on my mind, based on this kid's fucking attitude, his past history, the mere coincidences of the meeting....he absolutely went out to start EXACTLY this type of situation. The kid has an endless need for attention. In his first situation, he got into a high speed back and forth chase with an off duty police officer in which the cars came to a screeching halt, he BEATS the off duty cop with a collapsible baton because, as he claims "he was going to shoot me"...after which he dives back into his car through his window and speeds off...only to be caught later trying to hide from the police on some back road. HE was charged with assaulting the cop and the charges were dropped (for whatever reason.) This kid once posted from a library saying he "ran away from home" and was living on the streets because his dad grounded him. (the whole incident lasted like 10 hours.)

Like I said, sure, investigate the cop and punish him for his behavior...but this fucking kid is a piece of shit.

EDIT: Here's a link to a story I found showing a well established history of him vs the cops.

Missouri: Cop Website Contained Apparent Death Threat Against Video Vigilante

Unofficial website popular with Saint Louis, Missouri police contained a death threat against Brett Darrow three months before his recent encounter.

CopTalkWhen stopped by an out-of-control St. George, Missouri police officer last Friday, motorist Brett Darrow feared for his life (view story and video). It turns out, he had legitimate reason for concern. Three months ago, participants in an online forum frequented by Saint Louis law enforcement personnel threatened to harass -- and even physically harm -- Darrow.

The messages appeared on St. Louis CopTalk, a site that describes itself as a site "for the use of law enforcement officers employed by the St. Louis Police Department and their supporters in the St. Louis Metropolitan area." While it has no official ties to the city, it does allow officers to log into official police email accounts from the front page. In June of this year, Darrow had sparked outrage among the forum's members after he videotaped a disputed traffic stop involving what Darrow argued was a perfectly legal turn and what a Saint Louis police officer said was not.

In the course of researching the incident, TheNewspaper learned from an inside source about a CopTalk posting dated June 29, 2007. A user calling himself "STL_FINEST" wrote the following item, presented unedited and in full:

in reply to "Who is this terd?"
I hope this little POS punk bastard tries his little video stunt with me when I pull him over alone- and I WILL pull him over - because I will see "his gun" and place a hunk of hot lead right where it belongs.

We verified the existence of the post which, until some time around July, was publicly available here. It has been deleted. Because the CopTalk forum allows anonymous posting, only the site's administrator has the ability to confirm the identity of a poster or his status as a law enforcement official. When contacted by TheNewspaper this week, the forum owner had no comment beyond, "Sorry, the posting log I have access to only contains the most recent 300 messages, and that particular message cycled off some time ago."

Still, participants did not disavow the posting. Instead, another added, "I'm going to his house to check for parking violations." We informed Darrow of the existence of the messages, but withheld publication not wishing to interfere with an expected investigation into officers' behavior at the well-publicized traffic stops. To our knowledge, no such investigation was ever made.

CopTalk now bans discussion of Darrow's videos. A message dated September 10 reads: "We are already very much aware of Mr. Darrow and his antics. There is no need to post any of his award-winning videography here." Still, discussions of last Friday's St. George traffic stop made their way onto the site for a few hours before being removed by the administrator. One poster expressed contempt for Darrow:

"Other than CYA and a heads up why do we give this [expletive] any thought? He lives for this type of [expletive]."

Another CopTalk user referred to a discussion on the online forum AR15.com by saying:

"I have a discussion going on another board where someone is basicly [sic] calling me a liar. The retards have even invited Brett to join to tell his side of what he does."

The firearms enthusiast forum began discussing Darrow's video on September 10. At least one other message from a self-identified Saint Louis area police officer appears to condone official harassment of the twenty-year-old motorist.

"Take the kid to jail... today... tommorrow... the next day... everytime you see him out and he commits a traffic violation... tow his car and take him to jail... period. No arguing, no yelling.....nothing but the sound of cash leaving his wallet from impound fees and fines." (view thread, view saved image of full post)

Unlike the CopTalk forum, however, neither this user nor any others in a sampling we made of the nearly 2000 messages posted on the AR15.com message thread supported the actions of St. George Police Sergeant James Kuehnlein. A number immediately condemned the self-identified officer's remarks.

The evidence shows that law enforcement problems extend far beyond the tiny geographic boundaries of 1300 resident city and that Darrow's video may have wide-reaching effects. The young driver's encounters with Saint Louis area police began in March 2005 when an intoxicated, off-duty police officer threatened to kill him. Darrow escaped only to find himself arrested hours later. The city agreed to drop all charges against him on the condition that he waive his right to sue over the incident. The following year, a Saint Louis officer at a DUI roadblock said he would, "find a reason to lock you up tonight" (view video and story). This is in addition to Sergeant Kuehnlein's videotaped threat that, "we will ruin your career and life and everything else you have coming before you."

The videotape from Kuehnlein's police cruiser is currently missing and the sergeant is currently on unpaid leave. St. George P
