Quick, Easy, 2 Week Notice?

Something informal and to the point?

"I, Eric Riley shall be removed from the schedule effective 9-27-07."

I've been wanting to quit for a month or so now, managment has gone down hill. I've kept workin' at it because the money is (was) good for a 19 year old. But Endless Shrimp started and attracted a wonderful clientel and I'm not making money anymore so I'm DONEEE. I'd have a job by now but they're slamming me with hours (after telling them limit of 25 hrs w/ school they're working me 28-32 hrs/week) I've lost the motivation to effectively do my job.

So I'm done. I'm taking a couple weeks off (unemployed) while I catch up in school and I'll find a new job.

burn bridges! It makes you feel good to make someone cry.....

Seriously, be polite, you might need them for a reference. After you outgrow that need and if you still harbor ill will, make them cry!!!!

Be prepared, when you turn in the 2week notice they may tell you to just leave.

that would be nice.

Doubt it'd happen though... they've got about 6 servers that will are in the process of turning in thier 2 weeks notice or finishing up thier 2 weeks, and they're already overscheduling me as is.

Another polite way to put it is:

I no longer require your employment services. I have fulfilled my needs.

And then thank them. No need to burn bridges.

That is way to ambiguous and confusing imo. You can simply say "This is my two weeks notice, I have decided to pursue other avenues of employment" and it be completely ok. You aren't being mean or nice, you are simply informing the company that they need to find someone to fill your spot, they got 2 weeks to do it, and after that you are done working for them.

Being overly nice in a 2 weeks notice accomplishes nothing, being mean guarantees a bad reference, but just informing them of what is happening is professional and will maintain whatever reference they would give you anyway.

Of course, I don't really want my reference to be "he's a really nice guy." If I were hiring, I would interpret that as "he can't work worth shit, but at least he's got one good thing going for him"

Man, in 30 years I hope to have moved around in at least a half dozen companies, chasing the money. If more people did that, more businesses would be paying exactly what the job is worth instead of under or over paying people. Get someone in a spot that won't even look for another job and they're bound to be underpaid eventually

Of course, right now I'm underpaid and know it (I work for the gov't).

Job Search | one search. all jobs. Indeed

The mean salary for what I do is nearly $20k more than what I make, but the benefits of my job allowing me to attend classes during work hours and paying for school and paying for certs and whatnot is, at this point in my life, more beneficial. All that will change pretty soon though.

I've been with my current company for more than 5 years now. That's the longest I have ever been anywhere. I think about leaving sometimes but the company keeps growing and becoming more and more successful and I keep moving up within the company. They actually treat thier employees pretty well here so I think I will stick around for a while.. But you are right. If better opportunities arose I would certainly consider them. I'd be foolish not to.

As long as you look around and remain happy with your current pay, then awesome, you're working for a cool company. But I'm sure it's rare for a company to be that in tune with market demand (again, unless people often leave, forcing them to drive up pay).

I've been with my company for 24 years. I get 6 weeks paid vacation, 6 sick days, 6 personal days and 5 floating holidays. 6 more years and I get 8 weeks paid!

I started at the bottom working in the warehouse. I changed jobs a shitload within the company. Luckily it's a large enough company where doing that is pretty easy. Now I have a nice paying job, work from home 90% of the time, have a company car, I get salary PLUS OT , and work with great people and have almost always had great bosses. I hope I can retire with the company. Something MAJOR would have to be offered to me to switch companies.

I think I only gave a 2 week notice once. I started working when I was 12 stocking shelves at a liquor store. They had to let me go when school started because of labor laws. But when I turned 13 I started at another liquor store. I gave them 2 week notice my Jr Year in HS because I wanted to dedicate myself to football. I blew my knee out during a scrimmage (before they had ACL surgery) and was never able to recover from it. So I got a job at a grocery store. Worked there a few years and while I was working part time there and going to a community college this company offered me a job. $7 an hour!!!! How could I turn it down? I tried to give a 2 week notice at the grocery store but the manager was such a dick when I told him I was leaving I just walked out and started my new full time job the next day

The rest is history.

It could be to you're advantage that so many are leaving.

If theres any kind of downside for them of their high staff turnover you could exploit it somehow.
