By Jonathan Weisman Washington Post Staff Writer Monday, December 25, 2006; Page A01 For a quarter of a century, Carmen Scialabba labored for Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.), helping parcel out the billions of dollars that came through the House Appropriations Committee, so when the disabled aide needed a favor, ...

| Murtha kicking money to companies who fund his campaign...
This is truly disturbing. Murtha is basically making sure that federal money gets to organizations and lobbyist that give his campaign large sums of money. The result? An endless cycle of giving money to get money to continue getting elected. If this isn't an example of corruption I dont know what is. | ||||

| He's been doing this for quite some time. There's even been donations to "companies" that don't exist. When then asked if he can't prove the company exists if he would take the earmark out of the bill he responded with "no." Go figure. They purposely took down a lot of the recent ethics reforms put into place to do this kind of crap. Just think Pelosi was considering him as House Majority Leader at one point. The most crooked Democrats are getting promotions within this new Congress. This is why I disagreed with the ethics reform bill the Democrats recently passed. It removed locks on these loopholes which could have only been done intentionally. | ||||

| Props to you. We rarely see eye to eye on any issue, but this seems to be one we agree on. I don't care if the person in question is a republican, democrat, communist, white, black, yellow, green or even a family member (of which color shall remain nameless). This is a load of crap and should be fixed ASAP. This is nothing more than corruption and should have no place in Washington, or any other capital or municipality for that matter. The problem is that the voters keep voting these people back into office. We have a former mayer of Kansas City who is now a representative in our state government. He stole taxpayer money to fund his own business while mayor! But he gets a pass because of the color of his skin and the majority of his district is the same color. The standards need to be higher for our elected officials, but as long as the stupid voters want the same ol', same ol', that's exactly what we are going to get. | ||||

| This is why I think we should ban so called "ear-marks". Any piece of legislation should have to be able to stand on it's own two legs. IF legislators were not allowed to tack on pork spending to any old bill they feel like, this sort of corruption wouldn't even be possible. If you want a million dollars of federal money to build a bridge or a road in your home district, you better be able to sell it to the country and get it passed in congress. Because there is so much of this pork spending, it's easy for law makers to slide 'favors' into a bill and no one ever raises an eyebrow. It's like a needle in a stack of needles. Sure. if congress needed to vote on every individual issue it would slow things down. Maybe that would be a good thing. They would have to focus on what is most important and everyone would have to think alot more about the money that gets spent. | ||||
