| I was activated for a hurricane in N.O. before Katrina. The response of the city and state was exactly the same. IT was a clusterfuck. The mayor and the governor are responsible for most of the problems. | ||||

They weren't prepared at all at the local levels and refused to allow federal support.

| Funny how until the military showed up the local authorities were "stuck on stupid" (i love that quote). The city and state could have made a better plan for hurricane evacuation. | ||||

| I know I listened to the National guard radio chatter and state trooper radio chatter for 3 days. I also talked with a bunch of old guard buddies that were activated for this one and they said it was just as screwed up as the other activation 5-7 years before. | ||||

Then they restrict the federal government from helping until it's too late for them to get into the city. I don't care if the levees wouldn't held if they were upgraded. They probably would have helped some. It just goes to show that people are refusing to place any blame on the local authorities who were the first responders and screwed up Katrina from the getgo. If they hadn't messed up so horribly for years right up to the days leading up to Katrina and then finally really fucking up the day of and after, we wouldn't have been in such the pickle we were in. Blaming the Federal government can only go so far since they legally weren't allowed to invade Katrina and take over, unless the mayor gave them permission... which admittedly he refused. Once they got the ok to go into New Orleans they sent them in. But the stupid governor wouldn't even let them in the state so they lined up along the state border waiting for them to allow the rescue workers in. Once they were allowed in the roads were flooded and they couldn't get there in a decent time. And once they did get there they had to worry about getting shot. Yet nobody wants to blame the people who didn't leave during the manditroy evacuation or the local and state officials who were supposed to be in control of the situation.
