but as for the person who gets treated badly because of my jackassery... what's to say that the way i treated him wasnt a result of bad karma he's earned? maybe he got what was coming to him, as well.

hmm?

i see what you mean, but just because i come across assholes in my life doesn't mean it's not made up in other ways to me. and maybe it's not. but i see more often than not the good ways things happen and anyone can be cynical, but for me, it seems to work.

you can laugh all you want about my tv, but for my close friends, they're always amazed at all the good fortune that comes my way.... considering i had given my mom about $1600 to help her with bills within the last 5 months and never expected to get it back, and then all of a sudden winning a tv worth that exact amount. well it may or may not be karma, but it's still a pretty awesome thing and it's just that type of awesome thing that reinforces my belief in doing good stuff.

considering your wording of that, the cynicism you have overwhelming you right now prevents me from even getting through any type of spiritual enlightening, so there's no point in trying.

but, assuming there being beautiful things in the world is evidence that god exists (which is isnt), then what say you about the fact that there are gross, disgusting, and dangerous things in the world?

those balance out the beautiful. I think whatever you want to call it that created the first spark of something that evolved into our universe today can have creation attributed to it. if you disagree, you're certainly welcome to, but that's what i believe. i think science is a large part of that, but good balances out the bad, the beautiful against the ugly, i.e. every thing has it's opposite. that's more of an in depth view of karma, but that's what i've come to believe over the years, and it gives me a sense of peace. and when it comes down to it, that's all that matters to me. convincing you of that really isn't my m.o. you can come to whatever conclusions you want.

what does karma have to say about why bad things happen to good people?

people are abused as children and never get over it, never live normal lives, and then commit suicide. where's the karma in that?

yes they do, and i don't claim to be able to explain every example. i'm not all knowing. i just know on a cosmic level, i believe karma is there the majority of the time.

sounds like a cop-out to me.

and what is that supposed to mean to me, that you know that you believe something?

exactly that. i know what i believe. you dont have to believe it. i can explain it all i want or all you ask me to, maybe i'm not good at explaining things, but i believe that at a cosmic level, karma is present in all things. now, you're just nitpicking.

well if your cosmic karma sees fit to give you a tv but doesnt see fit to repay ALL rapists for their crime, then i dont see merit in karma, and i see no reason why anyone should have reason to believe in it. as you seem to realize but shrug off simply because you arent "all knowing", karma is inconsistent with reality.

like i said, i'm not out to change your mind on anything. I have my own experiences that have given me what I need to believe in what I believe. you can continue all you want on trashing whatever beliefs you want, but it's not a very earth shattering contribution on your part. you might want to use that energy in a more constructive manner elsewhere, it could actually have a positive outcome, if that's something that even matters to you......

this is the same sort of thing i'd expect a christian to say when confronted about the belief in a jesus god-person who could turn water into wine and come back from the dead after being born from a virgin.
so, congratulations.

then why call it god? why must you cling to that word, and not just simply call nature... nature.

For me the existence of a god is equiprobable to the existence of an invisible unicorn. There is really no reason to believe in either, but there is no reason to rule out the possibility either.
