He resisted, which of course is another crime. They escalated force properly - it was almost a textbook example - and did what they needed to do in order to force his cooperation. If he didn't want to be shocked, then all he had to do was cooperate. it's not like if you fight the police they're going to say "Oh well, I guess he was right. Let him go." When they decide you're going with them, you're going. You can go voluntarily or by force, and you can go without getting shocked, or with getting shocked. To paraphrase Robocop, "shocked or unshocked, you're coming with me."

Things like tripping over your feet or swimming in a pool shouldn't kill you, and yet sometimes they do. Ditto tasers. Whining about how deadly they are is just stupid. Hits to the head with a stick is more deadly, no matter how you look at it. And without the taser, that's the next step.

| Not according to what people who were actually there have said. He waited his turn in line, and said he wanted to preface his question with some background on them.. hardly an unreasonable thing to do. | ||||

| UF Student Tasered During John Kerry Speech - Videos - WTVJ Video from once they got him outside. "Ask what happened to me! They're giving me to the government! Oh, I'm so scared! They're going to kill me!" Yeah, he's honestly questioning, not being an attention whore. | ||||

| Giving background on your question is educating people on the subject you're going to ask a question about. Again, I don't think it's unreasonable. Either way, he posed no threat to anyone and excessive force was obviously used. It's easier to defend the police's actions if you convince yourself to believe this guy is worse than he actually is. Oh no, some college kid with an active interest in politics got a bit carried away when asking John Kerry some questions. Quick, taser him! Yeah, it couldn't be that he was just scared about what was happening after he was electrocuted needlessly. | ||||

Glad to see they were suspended. Hopefully they get docked some pay or something if not outright fired.. If nothing more, hopefully new procedures will be put in place that doesn't allow police to brutalize someone when there is obviously no physical danger to anyone involved in an incident.

| Main Entry: elec·tro·cute Pronunciation: i-'lek-tr&-"kyüt Function: transitive verb Inflected Form(s): -cut·ed; -cut·ing Etymology: electr- + -cute (as in execute) 1 : to execute (a criminal) by electricity 2 : to kill by electric shock I'm fairly sure he lived. Unless that was his ghost yapping about how afraid it was. | ||||

| As I said before, the issue of free speech isn't even viable in this discussion. Excessive police force is. I'm glad to see Mot agrees. | ||||
