The Boston Choke Sox

I mean seriously. Seriously?!

The Sox still have the best record in all of baseball... but for how long? They blew a 13 game lead in the AL east and they are now self destructing losing every game, and dropping 5 out of 6 to the Yankees. They are now 3.5 games ahead. That's not much of a margin with the way the Yankees have been playing.
And what's up with our pitching staff? The only member that has been performing consistantly has been Beckett. The rest of them... meh, you never know if they are going to show up. Dice-K has been a dissapointment. He was billed as the second coming of christ. HE's pretty good, but there are at least a dozen or more pitchers in the MLB that are much better, a few of them are on the Sox already! Hopefully the new rookie Bucholtz will pick up the slack.

I am disgusted. DISGUSTED
I will be so pissed if they blow the AL east and lose it to the Yankees again.

I'm working in NY this week. One of the girls I work with is from Boston and is a HUGE Red Sox fan. She called in sick this morning. Did they play and lose again last night? I hope she hasn't hurt herself!

I tried to talk to her about the Sunday game and she just told me to shut the fuck up. Hey, I like baseball and it was a great game to watch as a fan. I'm just glad I'm not a Red Sox fan.

How does the baseball post-season work? i dont see anywhere on the mlb site that explains it. The Rangers are 18 games back in their division according to the "regular season" standings but 16 games back in the "Wild Card" standings. I know they aren't going to make the playoffs, it is the Rangers after all, but what's with the difference?

meaning they have to win 18 games and have everyone ahead of them lose 18 games to be number 1 in their division. wild card is fought for between all those that aren't division winners but close... so the yankees are going for the wild card since we are leading the division. although we're only up 3 1/2 games. that means if we lose 3 1/2 games and the yankees win 3 1/2 then they have the division.

and we have 11 games left to play and the yanks 12... so it's a nail biter that's for sure.

i'm going to 2 games next week!!!!

No no, I understand what games back means. But you answered my question anyway kind of, only division winners are guaranteed a playoff spot with everyone else fighting for wild-card positions...

How many teams go in on wild-card?

WIth what Linzy said..

There are 6 divisions. 3 in the National League and 3 in the American League. You have the AL east, where the Sox and Yanks are. Then there is a central and a west division. Same for the National league.

the wild card is a 4th team , one from each league, that did not win it's divison, but which has the next best record from any division. That team is also sent to the playoffs.

There are only 8 total playoff teams between the AL/NL, out of 30 teams? That's rather competitive.

lol @ Rangers

yeah, and with that said the spanks have won our division for like 9 years or something. if we can hold on, it will be the first time of us winning the division -NOT THE WILD CARD- in a long time......

so yeah.

The Mets are starting to choke a little too but I think we will be alright...but nice to see the sox blow it again, any team can blow a lead but the Sox are masters at it, classic!
