I don't know what that means. extreme? regardless, an elderly woman in a wheel chair, even if weilding a knife, could be easily subdued by a single person. Wrap your arm in a thick towel, use that to shield yourself from the knive, and then grab the frail old womans arm and take the knife. She didn't need to be tasered. Especially considering the likely hood of death.

ex·i·gent
adj.
Requiring immediate action or remedy. See Synonyms at urgent.
Again, that's easy for you to say sitting at your desk and knowing you will never be in that situation. I'm sure you would be the hero to wrap a towel around your arm and rush a mad woman wielding knives and a hammer. Please.....

A mad elderly woman in a wheel chair man. A child could subdue her with a garden hose and a blanket.

You've obviously never worked with the elderly. They can be pretty strong and quick. Plus, since she is armed with a knife, it would be foolish to rush her and get within striking distance. Unless having the headline be "Cop killed by cripple in wheel chair" is better than the headline in this story.

I dunno. I see no reason not to taze someone just because they are in a wheel chair, especially when they are threatening others and hurting them self. I think the real problem is cops view tazers as a magic tool and aren't aware enough of the drawbacks and risks of using it. If the cops involved were more aware of the risks maybe they could have come up with a better plan to disarm her than just repeatedly shocking her.

Since she was in a wheel chair it would have been easy to immoblize her with small sticks or blocks placed in her path. once she was stationary a large blanket could have been thrown over her and pulled tight without placing anyone in danger. There are probably 100 ways you could subdue an irrational eldery woman in a wheel chair. Tasing was simply unnecesary.
They should use the least amount of force they can and still get thier job done. Shit, get a rope have two officers hold either end and just start walking around her in circles untill she is tied up. It's not like she can run away or kick someone or lunge or anything.

I think a couple of shots from the tazer is fine. But when they didn't work they should have tried something else. I like the walk around her with a rope idea. lol.

But how long does that take? And all the while she is still hurting herself. I can tell you if you throw a blanket on me it will take seconds to get it off. She's not a baby black bear.

Walk around her in circles I'm dying here!!! I can see the look she would give the police as they ran around her while she just lifted the rope over her head again and again so it wouldn't wrap around her. BWWAHHHAAAAAAA This image is priceless!!!! Oh shit, too funny. Oh - my - god. Tears...... Thanks Lou. That made my afternoon.....

I gotta send this to Reno 911 and see if they will use it at the biginning of their show.

I give up. If you think the only way to restrain a frail old woman in a wheel chair requires the use of a taser I don't know what else to say. It's so clearly an insane proposition that the mere fact you want to defend it compels me not to argue any further.

Well, she's not hurting herself now, is she? I guess the taser worked then.

I don't really have a problem with this, if they didn't have a taser they would have shot her anyways

What excessive force ? They had the right to shoot her. They tried a less lethal method and it ended up killing her accidently.
