Daily Kos: Why I Have A Little Crush on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Why I Have A Little Crush on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

by sallykohn

Sun Sep 23, 2007 at 05:50:02 AM PDT

I know I'm a Jewish lesbian and he'd probably have me killed. But still, the guy speaks some blunt truths about the Bush Administration that make me swoon...Okay, I admit it. Part of it is that he just looks cuddly. Possibly cuddly enough to turn me straight. I think he kind of looks like Kermit the Frog. Sort of. With smaller eyes. But that’s not all…

I want to be very clear. There are certainly many things about Ahmadinejad that I abhor — locking up dissidents, executing of gay folks, denying the fact of the Holocaust, potentially adding another dangerous nuclear power to the world and, in general, stifling democracy. Even still, I can’t help but be turned on by his frank rhetoric calling out the horrors of the Bush Administration and, for that matter, generations of US foreign policy preceding.....

He’s (Ahmadinejad) accusing the media of being a mouthpiece of Bush’s “war on terror” instead of accurately informing the American public and, for instance, blames the media for supporting the campaign of misinformation that helped to justify the war in Iraq. Again, this isn’t out there, lunatic, flaming anti-American rhetoric. This is simply a powerful and accurate critique of the United States --- a critique that the Bush Administration and the media would rather silence. Perhaps the Bush Administration’s campaign against

Ahmadinejad --- just like its campaign against Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro and others --- isn’t as much about whether he’s a danger to the world. There are plenty of leaders who are more dangerous (see, e.g., Kim Jong Il or the ruling junta in Burma). And certainly, as Bush himself illustrates, there are good and bad qualities in all leaders (for the record, Bush was good on immigration for a minute).

Could it be that, to the Bush Administration, one of the most dangerous things about Ahmadinejad is that he is calling the Bush Administration out? And so, if Ahmadinejad can’t be silenced, at least he can be discredited. I’m not saying he’s a good guy at all. I’m only saying it’s hard to know the full story when the Bush Administration seems so invested in smearing Ahmadinejad --- and the media, as we’ve already learned with Iraq, is happy to choose its facts in convenient accordance. Maybe we shouldn't buy into the Bush team's characterization of Ahmadinejad as part of their drumbeat escalating toward potential war. Maybe we should listen to Ahmadinjead ourselves and sift through what, if anything, is worth hearing.

Daily Kos: State of the Nation

It really makes me wonder how a far left liberal is going to deal with so many internal emotional conflicts? But I give this girl honesty points. How could you post this stuff if you did not believe it! Our entire National Media is out to support Bush and smear such fine global leaders as this. Thank God for KOS!

Much better that to try and convince people this is about free speech rights and civil debate. This Kermit the Frog needs to try that at home first where he does have real power for change.

Your title is purposely misleading, I think.

As far as the stuff in that blog post, they really only have one factual point that you've posted here in the little snippet, and the rest of it is opinion about the man, but I'll address it:

blames the media for supporting the campaign of misinformation that helped to justify the war in Iraq.
That's absolutely true. Many prominent American newsmakers and media folks have said that the media was no where near critical enough in the run up to the Iraq war, they didn't ask the tough questions and were reluctant to because they didn't want to be seen as unpatriotic..

So, Ahmadinejad isn't wrong.. and many people in America agree with him on that point.

I wish I had that video of Stephen Colbert blogging on Daily Kos about the ugliness of Hungarians and then immediately freaking out about Daily Kos 'endorsing' such hate speech.

Yes, lets embrace anybody who says the kind of political rhetoric we want to hear! But when I noted Osama did much of this in his last video most people on the board got rather defensive about it? Note I suggested that Osama was trying to talk like an anti-Bush liberal. Not that Liberals are like Osama.

I don't see much difference in this case. But I do question the motives of the messenger. This poor girl does not seem to bother.

I was thinking the exact same thing. This thread is like something from the Colbert Report. What a joke.

It doesn't seem to matter, as the video is a probable forgery by who-knows-who. Osama has said NOTHING to indicate that the video was made recently in a relevant fashion and in fact EVIDENCE points to the fact that the video was spliced over 16 times from DIFFERENT time periods.

And I shudder to think that it may be our own government who has done this.

You can agree with someone without supporting him. Mahmoud makes some very valid points from time to time, and maybe if we listened to his valid points they would help us out in the middle east. You can treat them as if he is your ex g/fs new b/f. You don't have to be his friend but you don't have to fight him either.
