Wow. That's offensive all the way around. I think he sucks for cheapening and politicizing his son's death, but beating him down isn't really a good way to represent the opposing viewpoint. I doubt they convinced anybody of the rightness of the war by assaulting a dead soldier's father.

Original post was from AfterDowningStreet.org | Impeach Bush and Cheney Now! and told half the story and lied about the half it told. The story that appears to be the truth after both sides tell the story:

1. Carlos was walking his casket down the road.
2. Peterson (an ex-marine) takes a picture off the casket to "liberate" the picture from a display with an upside down flag and place it in Arlington... or so he says. He walks away with it and Carlos doesn't notice.
3. A little while later someone tells Carlos a man took a picture off his display.
4. Carlos runs 20-25 feet at the man (a 60+ year old with arthritis) and attacks him from behind.
5. People around the fallen senior citizen try to get Carlos off him (Carlos claims they were also hitting him). One of the men who was trying to get Carlos off was bit on the arm and broke skin which required a bandage. The 60 year old man had road rash on his body. Carlos appears to have no visible injuries despite claims that five or six people were beating on him.
6. Police come and get the story from Peterson and Carlos and in the end ask if they want to press charges against Carlos, they decline. One of the men Carlos attacked actually gives Carlos a hug and tells off the anti-war demonstrators who were encouraging the violence that they're responsible for what happened and essentially calls them assholes. No charges were ever considered for the Eagles.

Nobody ripped the picture or any of the other garbage in the original post.

When the marines came to his home to tell him his son had died in Iraq he doused their vehicle in gasoline and set it on fire as well... He's not very stable.

They protest together and know each other, not sure if they're friends though. He's an immigrant from Venezuala I think, and because of his anti-war protesting and such Ted Kennedy worked it out to make him a citizen.

That why we need so many rules in a court of law. When people jump to conclusions based on one side that fits their ideology or prejudice that is how you get a lynch mob going. I don't doubt people on the right are guilty of this.

But I was not pleased that the original post suggested that Republicans or pro-war people (whatever that means) might be shy to condemn this if it were true as presented. Nothing wrong in being skeptical until you have all the facts.

I wish he would have done some more damage instead of a lame tackle. It reminds me of bullies at school and then the victim finally stands up for themselves. everyone is wrong, there is no such thing as "liberating" a picture. And a theft of a picture is no reason to start a physical fight. Everyone was wrong, protesting ftl.
