About every 3 or 4 years my wife gets pissed at me....

because she wants us to join the Y or a health club. I say "Why? Every time we join we never use it. We are just pissing our money away." She gets pissed, I give in, she gets the membership for us, we use it a good 5 or 6 times in the first month, we never go back, I cancel a year later.

It's the same thing, over and over and over. Well, today it happened again. Good lord. This time I'm not backing down. She wants us to join because our oldest wants to join soccer and it's cheaper if we are members and we could use it. Let's see:

$60 to join soccer for non-members
$40 to join for members
$220 to sign up for the Y
$80 a month after that.

Soccer lasts about 3 months.

If we are members we pay $220+40+80+80+80 = $500 for my son to play

If we are not members we pay $60.

Can someone please tell me how we are saving money by joining the Y????

Do you have room for an all-in-one type peices for the home? Like could you get by with a bowflex/total gym and maybe a treadmill/exercise bike?

Mike be cheaper in the long run and you guys might be more likely to use it if it's in your basement or something..

Or she could just be the passive aggressive type, and you are getting some special ingredients in your food...

I'm sure you are right on the saving money aspect of this. But she is thinking of the ideal that working out, in this way will work out. I've done the same thing. And it usually wastes money.

But, if you argue that you are right, and she's wrong, and all that, well, you will make her more determined. At least it would me....

She's used to getting her way, and I gotta say her way is right 95% of the time. But this time she isn't right, isn't getting her way, and got pissed about it. She'll get over it
