People do go door to door looking for a house that looks empty and is unlocked. They do the same with cars. Locking the door keeps those people out.

Your level of security only has to be greater than the will of the person trying to break it. No amount of security can prevent attack from someone who cannot be deterred.

That's a good thing to think about when we're trying to "secure our borders" as well as secure ourselves from foreign threats... determination can overcome any amount of security.

But as far as not locking your door, that's just asking for some random person to come walking into your house.

Not at my house. If someone comes to my door then he's here for a reason. It might be sell something or find the cunt owner who lived here previously or to rob me, but he has a reason.

Yeah, I think that's just weird to us who live in areas that are a bit more likely to have people going through randomly seeing if they can pop into a house and steal something without being noticed.

In my small town, it is odd - some people should lock their doors when they are home, some don't have to worry about it, and some don't really ever have to lock them at all. It's such a small town that everyone knows where everyone else lives and they would likely only break into a house of someone they knew to have 1)nice stuff and 2) no way of tracing it back to them

luckily enough my buddy was a drug dealer and for some reason people thought I was involved as well and he always told people that I would kick their ass (even though I'm 5'6" ) so nobody has ever really fucked with me at all in this town, maybe they think I have a gun (which I do) or they are just scared of him and I put together? I'm not sure, but so far so good... I've forgot the key in my motorcycle sitting in the front yard and nobody touches it, lol

the best deterrence seems to be fear of immediate consequences rather than getting caught by police after the fact - a "This house protected by Smith & Wesson" sticker on the front door probably does wonders to keep people from even touching the doorknob

I think he means he may have a gun on the couch, someone walks in to rob him and now he has a gun. Or someone gets to the door. Finds out it's locked and works to find his way in the house. By this time the gun on the couch is in hsmith's hand.
