| So you're saying liberal academics use PC words because they sound better, and not because they don't want to be PC. While GOP rednecks us PC words because they have a burning desire to not offend someone. | ||||

| They HAVE to use the titles assigned, often courses and even whole departments are changed around at a moments notice and you have a group of grumpy people in a hot room on a friday at 5pm going through a checklist and making a 2 minute decision on a title by people who have no familiarity with the subject whatsoever | ||||

I had some whacky-left socialist professors in Philadelphia, and they all thought using African-American was stupid (many of them were black) and the writings I was refered to across the nation certainly came to that conclusion I am sorry I don't have the handouts from years ago that I can scan and show you What do I think specifically about that newspaper? You had one professor at one meeting who was bitching and moaning and everyone just said "fine whatever" because its not THAT BAD of a term, its a just not accurate, but niether is black, because they aren't black, they are dark brown Perhaps A-A wasn't the best choice, scholars certainly come to agree that someone is Hispanic, not a "Latino-American" and they've universally rejected Native Americans because NA's hate the title, you call them by their tribe, and refer to them as "North American tribes" in many senses, and sometimes, as a shorthand ive seen the most sensitive, ultra-liberal professors say they were "Indians" just because its quick shorthand | ||||

| This is stupid trying to pin political correctness on liberals or conservatives. They both do it, just about different subjects. At its heart, political correctness is simply when you're not allowed to say true things because they're taboo, so instead they're not talked about or euphemisms come up instead. Sure, liberals have come up with some stupid PC terms, but so have conservatives. If I say Dubya is "zealously religious," that's very un-PC in conservatives circles, so instead I must use the euphemism "man of great faith." If anyone says anything bad about a soldier in Iraq, regardless of how true it is, that's also very un-PC in conservative circles, so instead I must use "our brave soldiers fighting for our freedom." Conservatives also MUST refer to any and all people involved in surgencies as "terrorists," or they'll be accused of being sympathizers. Try to label a terrorist something neutral like a "combatant" according to basic journalistic objectivity and PC conservatives will whine just as loudly as a bleeding heart liberal upon hearing "black" instead of African American. It's bullshit on both sides. | ||||
