well I pulled the trigger today, but I got a 16gb .... I didn't want to regret having half the storage... I was pushed over the edge when I saw that Apple was beginning to support 3rd party applications rather than cripple the device from using them

I'll report back later after I'm home and get it setup through iTunes etc. ... maybe I'll even make the post from it with WiFi :nerdalert:

16 GB is a complete waste. I have a totally full 60 gig video ipod and I would love an itouch to replace it at some point...but only when they grow in capacity.

16gb is huge to me .... right now I use a 1gb microsd card in my phone and think it has plenty of songs

the ipod touch has more appeal to me as a wifi browser etc than it does as a music/video player, though once I get it setup to download some podcasts I'm sure I'll be very happy

for now though I almost feel like taking the piece of shit back and letting them know that 24hrs with this thing was an acceptable reminder why I had never before bought an Apple product in my life

Capacity need is all about how you use your ipod. Do I need my complete collection of songs at all times? No, probably not, but some people see it as annoying if they have to change out albums/songs as their want changes instead of just finding it in their playlist.

iPod touch won't be as big as regular iPods anytime soon. The cost of solid state memory is still too high. If it abides by the "every 2 years technology doubles in effect and halves in price" rule, it'll still be 6 years before it gets to the size of the current larger iPods, so they'll probably have to put the new interface technology (which is currently pretty expensive after everything is added) into the bigger iPods, but even that is a few years from being economically practical given the afore mentioned rule.

Technology changes so fast, the farthest you can really look ahead is half a year. If you're on the market for a new MP3 player and see nothing better coming down the pipe within the next 6 months, you might as well go with whatever it is you're looking at. And even then you're bound to be disappointed with companies holding back info (like Google often does) or startups creating something that changes the industry. The "best" isn't out there, if you're looking for it, give up.

the 8gb was probably 279, the 16gb is about 100 more

the Zune doesn't really even compare... the ipod does a lot more

well today I went to my aunt's downloaded iTunes on her stupid satellite connection (think.... slow .... then imagine half that speed) and installed it on her computer, plugged in the touch... bam, no problemo

I have no clue what the problem is with the drivers and my computer, but I am still unsure what I'm going to do to get this thing to work at my house. At least now I can use the darn thing though.
