Talk to my boss v. need a rAise

For staters, I'm 18 and I've been working for my company since a month after my 16th birthday. 10 months prior to getting hired I was promoted from "sacker" to "cashier" w/ a $0.50/hr raise.

I've been at my current job ~ 27 Months now (2.2 years) and I'm still making what I made when I went to cashier, $7.00/hr. I know EVERYTHING there is to know about cashiering, I help my co-workers when they get stuck, I help train thier new cashiers (who are making the same as I am

)

I get compliments all the time, being the only one who counts change back (four , five, five makes ten and ten is twenty) and being one of the oldest part time cashiers there (age and length of employeement) I also get compliments from the people who count the drawers saying that mine is always right on (I loan a penny ocasionally instead of giving $0.99 in change or w/e)

I told my manager I'd like to fill the stocker position ($8.00/hr) when a kid left for college a few weeks later. He said he'd talk to the 2nd manager in charge (the one bellow him, also does scheduling) A couple days later that 2nd manager talked to me and asked if I was going to school this year (senior year) and what my availibility was (3-9 week nights, weekends anytime)

I think he wants me to stay till 10-11ish on weeknights, they typically stay that late. I feel school is a bigger priority and would like time to do my homework, and not be late in the morning.

I was back in the dairy with my buddy talking about cars and what-not when the part time stocker (married to HR lady, works 7-10 on thursday and weekends, he's like 30 and works at Pontiac during the week) was like "wow man congrats they're training you for back here huh?' (I was helping my buddy move crates while talking)

So I said no and told him I asked to take the stocker spot but I figured my availibility must not be long enough. My buddy told me to talk to the manager about working dairy.

So I'm trying to convince myself to talk to the manager about a raise, and/or promotion. My company is INCREDEIBLY cheap. However, I can get sandwhichs CHEAP from the Deli, they have a salad bar if I want to eat healthy, and the location is great. I also have a few friends there. I hate to threaten my job to make a couple extra bucks but I feel I deserve it.

Cliffs: been at company 2 years, best worker they got. Asked to take stocker position, availibility not good enough. I feel I deserve a raise but I'm nervous as my company is cheap. It most likely will take me threatening to leave to get a raise.

I worked the same place all through high school at minimum wage. Actually I got a like 10 cent raise once which was nothing I even noticed. Those kinds of places just can't afford to pay much it seems

I applied at Carbaas (Itallian Restraunt) and they haven't called me yet (2 weeks tom)

I hate to threaten my job because my dad isn't in a financial position to pay for my brothers college + my car ins + my gas + my food (my car is paid off but I still owe him on it)

Go apply to be a teller at a bank. They make like $9-$11 an hour and your 2 years cashiers experience would be good to put on their application. There is also a bunch of hotty tellers you could put your pimp down on. I had sex with the 132nd and center street first national.

most banks close around 5. I get out of school at 3.

Most banks close at 6, and tellers are usually there past close at least half an hour. You could get a good 2 to 3 hours per day during the week and then work all day on Saturday, and end up with a decent part time wage.

Really?? Ours close inside at 6 but the drive throughs are sometimes open until 8, and then after counting shit up and all that nonsense they work until about 9pm. Some of them are open like noon to 4 on sundays for basic stuff like deposits but they don't go through until mondays.

I checked with one of the girls that works at the first national on 132nd and center via the email. This is in nebraska of course. She said the drive through is open until 7 there and that she leaves about 8. So you'd be lookin at 330-4 until 8 during the week, and whatever for weekends.
