MMM tomatoes

If you have never grown your own tomatoes I highly suggest doing it. Even if it's just one plant in a container on your porch. The ones you buy in the store just aren't the same. Those things were bred to have tough skin and be sturdy enough to be able to ship them by truck and what not.
There is nothing like a tender juicy beefsteak tomato that has been ripening on the vine for a week or so. I just slice it up, put a little salt on it and eat it just like that. Mmm!

I stopped at a local farm stand thinking that those tomatoes would be good like the ones I grow. Nope. They were just like the crap you buy in the store. Dry, tough, thick skinned and no flavor.

I planted 6 plants and we have not had to buy a single tomato all summer. After the first ones started ripening we have had fresh tomatoes every day. I even had to give a bunch away because I had more than I knew what to do with!

My wife does this. She has 3 planters and puts tomatoes in one as early as possible. Then she plants the next one a week later, than the last another week later. It helps stagger when the tomatoes ripen so we have them longer and don't get hit with a big bunch at a time.

She also does cucumbers and red/yellow peppers and lettuce.

There is no comparing a store-bought salad with one made with lettuce, tomatoes, and peppers you just picked yourself.

We didn't this year but we usually do. I remember last Thanksgiving we still had a few tomatoes on the vine and we picked them for our meal. I love em!
