Before the Roman Catholics, there were numerous sects of Christians.

There were Pauline Christians, gnostic Christians, Ebionites, Sabellianists, and dozens of other sects.

I can see what she is saying though. That isn't really BEFORE Catholics though so much as contemporary groups to the Catholics that were eventually melded into what came to be known as Catholicism or derided as heretics and basically snuffed out.

As a non-religious person, I don't really understand this "real vs. not real christians" thing.

If you believe that jesus was the son of god and died for your sins, how can you not be a christian? Isn't that the definition of a christian?

I dunno dude... I mean, maybe from the outside looking in it all looks the same, but from the inside looking side-to-side, the mormons are certainly... uh... different. Joseph Smith was a nut job.

Not that it matters in voting for a president, just because someone is Christian certainly doesn't mean they'll be a good leader (how many times has THAT been proven?), and just because they're not doesn't mean they won't be. That's the weird thing about the Christians that think we MUST have a Christian president and that one who isn't would just trample on the church... like all non-Christians spend all their waking hours trying to figure out ways to undermine the church (no more than half of non-Christians do that ).

Mitt certainly won't get the super-Christian vote, super Christians simply will not accept a Mormon as a Christian (and probably even a lot of not-so-super Christians). Personally, as a Christian, I don't necessarily need a Christian as a president as there is little need for religion in the government, ESPECIALLY at that level. I'll pick a sound mind over someone who claims they get all their directions from their talks with God any day... hell, the Bible even warns about people who tout their relationship with God (false prophets and whatnot)

Mitt will only have problems in the primaries over not being "Christian" enough. If Al Sharpton were running again we'd be hearing Obama isn't "Black" enough. When it comes to a national election though the Christians would vote for Mitt over a godless liberal.

If only there were any atheists running (or people who could publicly admit to it).

I dunno how many black people you have in your area, but I've heard from multiple people around here that black people don't much care for Obama. He's at least not ensured the black vote in the primaries, which I believe he'd like to think he is.

Doesn't matter. Christians consider liberals Godless no matter how much they claim to be religious. They don't understand how someone can be Christian and pro-choice, etc...

Because he isn't "black" enough. But if he got the national nomination and was running up against say McCain, he'd get the black vote again. Same phenomena we're seeing with Mitt and Christians.

Hey, Lets take it easy calling Joseph Smith a "Nut Job" having not known him I find your comments careless. If you disagree with what he said you are free to do so but many and even most people who knew him who were not members of the Mormon faith loved him and revered him as a kind a loving person capable of turning his greatest enemies into good friends.

Most people haven't given the Mormon church a second thought because of ignorance of the LDS faith. If anyone even knew of the doctrines of the Mormon church the last thing that would come to their mind is "Not a Christian"

People love to bash the LDS church and I don't know why. When was the last time you heard a Bishop or and prominent leader come out and rail on another churches teachings. Which appears more Christlike?

As for Romney, I not a huge fan but you have to love what he could do on the business end of things in the white house. I like Ron Paul but not much hope there.

Our priest at our very large Catholic church right before the last elections told the congregation that a real Catholic would not be Republican or vote that way. He got a lot of angry letters after that sermon. It was a damn good sermon however.
