Some people seem to react as if someone has come out of the closet and we need to be supportive lest we be called a homophobe! And I do find that silly!

In Rowlings defense I do know someone who was there when it happened. It was just a question among many. After some quick applause everybody moved on. And this was a special program for adults. She already did a number of Kids programs. But she also knows the press hears everything and the internet carries it like the wind. This became the story even though I was told it was a very cool event. She autographed a couple hundred books and was very nice to everyone who waited in line to meet her. | ||||

![]() HOWEVER, there's a lot of Star Wars stuff that is fan-created. That is a bit different, because they too can say whatever they want when making up a story. Further, there were a lot of Star Wars books made to bring out the back stories of minor characters in the movies. It is a bit different, but I'd be saying the same thing if someone asked Lucas, "Did Obi Wan have any childhood regrets?" (or something like that) and it was justified with a real answer.

| I have to add my two sense in here...I apologize for being a literary and classical dork: There are a number of things to think about, if we accept at face value that Dumbledore was homosexual. We also have to take at face value that this story has a lot to do with myth and magic. In ancient Greek mythology, and really in ancient Greek lifestyles, it was not uncommon for older men to have young boys are their companions. Pederasty was essentially the sexual relationship between teacher and student. It leads one to think about whether Dumbledore's relationship with Harry was that of a father who loves his son, or whether there may have been something more driving him. The whole homosexual notion was the Dumbledore had strong feelings for Grindewald, a wizard who was equal in his powers and equally interested in the strange magic of the Hallows. Grindewald is gone, and here comes Harry, also an equally powerful wizard (heck, even more powerful considering he killed Voldemort) who is also interested in the terrible powers that come with the Hallows. It changes the relationship between the two. I don't agree with how Rowling presented it though. She who talks furiously about wanting to be done with Harry shouldn't be opening such a can of worms. This really should have led into some sort of Harry Potter Encyclopedia, where she could have presented her intentions for all the characters without worrying about the speculation that would be passed around. It was a silly thing to do and unnecessary to the story as it stands, but we should keep in mind that obviously she wants us to think about Dumbledore in a different way. | ||||
