He ran a big fundamentalist mormon operation in several states, had like 80 wives, 250 kids. He got in trouble for tax issues and setting up marriages with underage girls, sexual assault with minors, sexual conduct with minors, etc. He ran the place like a cult, telling everyone what they could and could not do, etc. Just a crazy dude.

Geez. Sounds like a real scumbag.. I still think there are other people probably more worthy of a top 10 slot though, considering it seems like most of his crimes center around polygamy (which, compared with serial murder, really isn't a particularly big deal).

There are certainly straight-up child molestors that probably deserved the spot more than him.

I think he was top 10 just because they've been chasing after him for a few years and he encourages thousands and thousands of people to live like him.

It's a joke.

He's a Christian writer, made millions telling people how to live their lives with his book.

My point though is that this guy seems to be primarily guilty of breaking a law that should not be (polygamy), and having a cult of personality.

In respect to the sexual conduct with a child, unless they suspect him of literally THOUSANDS of those acts, I'm sure there are dedicated child molestors that deserved the spot more than him.

I believe part of the deal is the cult will marry many of these underage women and keep them as prisoners by threats of bodily harm.

The women are forced to submit to the will of their husbands in any and all things under threat of harm.

In that case I'm more willing to accept him being on the 10 Most Wanted list. If they were forcing women into it then it isn't free choice to enter into a contract, and especially if they were beating and raping as a group then I can see the rationale behind it.

Like I said, I don't know anything about the guy, but at first blush he didn't seem to warrant it more than, say, a serial child rapist or whatever.

I said at the beginning of the thread that I didn't know much about him, and rectified my statements in the very same post you're quoting just the very end of to say that, prior to learning that info, I didn't think he warranted it more than a serial child rapist if he was just a polygamist with a cult. I corrected mysef when I learned that he was indeed a serial child rapist.

It bothers me that polygamy is a crime when it comes to consenting adults, but the twisted relationships that sometimes emerge are damaging in some ways to children if they're forced into the lifestyle
