You didn't. You bring up "life, liberty and the persuit of happiness" and the fact that "it's all inclusive" as it applies to your not being disturbed by protests. I guess you see no such connection to things you don't agree with.

It doesn't matter whether or not you like the message, they have a right to it and to protest.

I think the world would be a better place with them setting themselves on fire and killing their brainwashed supporters, but if we are to live in a free society we have to respect free speech when it's most unpopular.

Like I said, I think a better way to go about this would be to consider it harassment rather than attacking their ability to protest.

i have no problem with gay marriage

i just don't see the need of the federal government being involved. in case you forgot, gay marriage is legal where i live.

Yeah, but that's not now this law goes after it. The Government can't restrict speech on its on land the basis that they/you don't like what it says or they're/you're offended by it.

However, if they step over the line from a peaceful protest into harassment or some other offense, there are already laws on the books that can handle this.. See: Cindy Sheehan being arrested various times.

It is still offended people looking for a reason / way to shut up people who are offending them.

That isn't something they should have a right to do.

An exception leads to more exceptions. Once we have justified an exception for free speech that is extremely unpopular, it becomes easier to do so for speech that is very unpopular, etc..

I agree with the ACLU, the way the law is written it is limiting them unconstitutionally.

But, I don't see why a law that requires them to be more than 500' from an active service would be illegal. Make the law say that, and then when they get their bullhorns out and start yelling arrest and ticket them for disturbing the peace.

How is any of what I'm suggesting unconstitutional? I'm not saying he *can't* say it, I'm saying he can't say it within 500' of an active funeral service. There's already precident with the buffer zone for abortion clinics.

Because the troops in question are being buried on government/public land. It's different than a private funeral home where they could be ticketed for tresspassing, etc.

There's different laws that govern public land and public space when it comes to protests

The buffer zone around abortion clinics includes public space. 4' in front of an abortion clinic is the public sidewalk but by law someone can't stand there and hand out plastic aborted fetuses.

What I'm proposing does not limit their speech.
