I have no personal issues against white people, and I do feel sorry (sincerely) for those that are judged racist just because of skin color and not by their actions, it is unfair and wrong - those kinds of things are the reason I would like to see hate crime laws go away.

However, I cannot deny that real and violent racism still exists that ruin lives financially as well as physically - a person who willfully does things like that have psychotic issues that go way beyond "a crime of passion" or whatever. And they should pay a heavier fine in my view by giving them the maximum time for the crime as prescribed by law for the crime itself (not hate law).

In the end, the only way this ever go away is with the enlightenment of a new generation the breaks through the bonds of ignorance of the old - we are certainly better of than 50 years ago, but we still have a ways to go.

What I said was EVERY high school kid should know that a noose hung from a branch is more than just some rope in a tree. EVERY high school kid should know a burning cross is not just another bonfire. EVERY high school kid, whether they like it or agree with it, should know that the Southern Cross is more than just another flag. I can't think of a way to teach american history without those symbols coming up so the argument that they "had no knowledge that nooses symbolize ... lynchings" is wrong.

Also notice I'm not even saying the teacher has to identify them as "bad".........just that in the normal course of teaching history, kids should learn there's more to them than the sum of their parts.

I agree with the burning cross and somewhat with the southern flag, but I don't agree with the noose. I see the as more of a "western justice" type symbol than something against blacks. I have never thought of that as a symbol of racism.

This is the point I'm making.........if you hung a noose in a tree would you expect black people to have more of a reaction than whites?

Wow, this was always the wierdest part to me. The "Jena six" are being treated in some circles as celebrities. Two of them presented an award at the BET hip hop awards, to a standing ovation. One of the two is still facing attempted murder charges.

I never mentioned "Mass Conspiracy" all I said if you read the post is that there is a movement for this to be true...and you do not have to be genious to see that when any other race cries wolf everybody has to be there to comfort them. While when whites try to complain or feel they have been wrongly done, everybody else throws at them the "you are white and have had everything spoon fed to you so you should deserve to suffer attitude"

And 7960, I put that out there so that people realize if you believe something you should back it up with some actual examples....so quit hating!

You knew the media was going to blow this up but if this guy is truthful the shoddy reporting is down right scary. Reporters not making sure of their facts and reporting nonsense makes one lose more faith in one of the important elements of our society and our democracy. I know why they did it to get people glued to their newspapers, and television news shows, but they should be shot if this story is true of even partly true, and if it is the reporter is one true patriot but we need a lot more.

That is just incredibly irresponsible or equally dumb. I vote irresponsible. The students involved should have been expelled period and a lot of trouble after the fact could have been prevented.

Maybe now hearing about this Jena 6 thing. Before that, no, I would have not expected blacks to take it any different than whites. I'm 42. Every western I ever watched had a noose in it where they were going to hang a horse thief or whatever. Hanging isn't a death I consider happened more in our history to blacks than whites.

Bullshit. I see blacks with chains on their car license plates that represent their peoples ancestors "bonds". Does that mean every time I see a chain I'm supposed to think about slavery?

The noose was only form of capitol punishment used in the United States for hundreds of years (firing squad was used but mainly by the military). It was used on everyone. White and black.
