fucking bank, stupid shit

So I'm getting a home equity line of credit. My house is in a trust and the bank said in order to close on the line they need a copy of the trust. Well, the trust also includes medical shit, power of attorney, stuff involving disability....things that are none of their business.

So they say they need a copy. I say I will give them the parts they need (3 of the 16 articles). They say they need the whole thing because "we need to know you didn't remove anything." We talk......the guy gets the impression that I just don't want to give him *my* copy so he says "you can photocopy it and send us that if you want."

So............I say "You need the whole thing so you know I didn't remove anything pertinent, but you only need a copy. So I could type up 50 pages and replace the ones in the trust with those and you'd never know." He said "If you did that we'd find out if we ever had to take your house, and we'd go to court and claim fraud." So I said "then why do you need the entire trust? If I left anything pertinent out you could go to court and claim fraud!" He finally said "NOW i see what you mean."

He's letting me send just the 3 articles.

Lesson for the day.............. DO NOT just hand over what people ask for without asking "why?" And if the answer doesn't make sense, ask again, and again, and again.

I get asked for SSN all the time. Fucking Shaws supermarket wanted it for a rewards card.......... I asked "why?" and the lady said "because we need it." I said "what do you need it for?" and she said "for the application." I said "I see that, but do you *really* need it?" and she said "we must, it's on the application."

Again.................. no SSN and I still got the card.

Stupid assholes.

Never ever give out SSN unless it is for the most important of accounts. Yes I have had someone steal my SSN and rack up debt but I caught them early and it took me literally two full days of phone calls and faxing stuff etc to get it straightened out again. It was a real pain in the ass considering I was the victim. Filed a police report which was a serious pain since they needed that done in the county where it actually happened which was half way across the US from me. Now my accounts are on 7 year watch (no one can open an account without calling me first) and credit back to normal.

My dad's identify was stolen. The guy applied for new all new info......CC, SSN, change of address, phone number...the works. My dad didn't know for months because the guy changed the billing address. When the CC company sent it to collections they got in touch with my dad because they looked up former information.

I don't know exactly but my dad guesses there was over $70k in damage before it was shut down. It took him more than a year to get it all off his credit report. In the end, for as much of a pain in the ass as it was, my dad actually said the CC company was ok to work with.

One of my coworkers ex's racked up $50k in credit cards under her name. She out from a credit and collections company calling her at work. Same thing, address changed so no bills went to her house.

She had a hell of a time getting the police to do anything. She went from cop to cop to cop telling her story. Then they did the thing, well, he lives in soandso county, you need to go there. She goes there and they tell her that she needs to go to her local police office. She finally gets someone to talk to her and start filing papers. She tells him the amount is $50k and he says "Wait, that makes it a felony." and just looks at her. She goes "Yeah, and???" He groans and says "Different form." and slowly gets up to get the correct paperwork. She was in tears telling me the story the following morning. It took her weeks to get everything strait with all the different companies.

The CC company did everything for my father. He paid the initial $50...the part you're responsible for, then they did everything else with police and the DA and shit.
