The patriots are ridiculous

Seriously. It's almost not even worth watching thier games. Aparently the redskins have the #1 rated pass defense in the leage? huh. what was the score? like 52-7 or some crazy shit? There will be one game worth watching and that's vs the Colts. It's like they are possesed this year. They are just angry and they are running up scores and generally making the other teams look like amateurs.
As a RedSox fan I am torn. I hate the Yankees. The Patriots are the NFL equivalent of the Yanks from a few years ago. The evil empire. Well without the crazy payroll I guess.
Hey at least the pats don't just buy all of thier players

I lol'ed when the announcer said "I see a pattern. Brady doesn't come out until they're up by 50 points."

Right. The Pats are doing it with guys who work for their money, not a bunch of prima donna superstars getting top dollar to play unless then have a hangnail.

I hear Randy Moss, Adalius Thomas, Wes Welker and Dante Stallworth all decided to sign for some crab cakes.

I hope they go undefeated so the '72 Dolphins can all just die.

They have become one of the league's most valuable franchises under Kraft, but they have spent shrewdly. Their player payroll usually has ranked in the middle to lower half of the NFL. The NFL Players Association has not completed its calculations for this season, but the Patriots' payroll of around $105 million probably will put them somewhere in the middle again.

Randy has a 1 year deal for scrub money in case he had another meltdown.

He will either be gone next year or that stat will be dramatically different.

And just because they spend less money, doesn't mean they don't buy their team. There are things to offer other than cash.

So kraft made a shrewd decision...so?

They let some serious players go.....why would Moss be any different?

Ok, so you're saying the Pats bought their team even though they're in the middle to lower half of payroll for the NFL.

Show me where they're offing something "other than cash."

The "other than cash" item is the chance to play for the Patriots, the best team in the NFL and it gives a player thier best chance at getting a superbowl ring.

So top-tier players are accepting less to play with the Pats? Who are these players?

Yes. They went out and bought the players in this last off season that have put them over the top. This is common knowledge.

I'm not sure why you guys are so defensive about it.

Randy Moss for one. I think some of the other guys who are already on the Pats could get alot more money elsewhere but they stay on the team. You don't think someone like Teddy Bruschi or Mike Vrabel could get alot more with another franchise?

Maybe a few system guys, but not the rest.

No. They are mostly system guys.

I'm not defensive about it. I'm saying they're in the middle of the NFL for payroll but you're saying they bought a team in a thread where they're compared to the yankees. The Pats are nothing like the yankees. The yankees "bought" the best players in the league in order to win. The Pats got guys who want to play and are winning with them. And when they demand too much money they're gone. The difference is the Patriots are a team, the yankees are a bunch of individual players.

I disagree.

Most thought Moss was washed up and were beating up kraft/belichick for taking him. Now he's on pace to break most of the Patriot records and a few NFL records.

I guess they could. I can see your point..........but, they're also getting massive bonuses for winning super bowls. I'm asking because I don't know...how much? Does it make taking slightly less worth it (money-wise)?

I guess my point is that when it comes to offering salaries to get good players, thet pats don't do anything that other teams aren't doing and infact have a lower payroll that alot of other teams.. which is unlike the Yankees which simply out spend every other team. I think as of 2006 the Yankees had a payroll that was almost 200 million. Boston was #2 and they only spent 120 MIllion. Everyone else is 100 million or less. That is what I mean by buying it's team. They spend double what everyone else spends. The patriots spend an average amount. There are plenty of teams who spend alot more on players and don't do as well.

I was going to go downtown for the celebration but by the time I got home I think I had to fight to stay awake to watch the last inning....

Then we agree?

That's what I've been saying. They aren't cruising the league just buying out players. The Pats are doing it with the best player in a price range they decide, not the player's agent.

I just realized that's from the 2006 season.

Those numbers don't account for all the players they got in the off-season.

I would still say they are on the high end of the middle. They know how to draft and they have a good system in place, but they still buy their team as much as anyone else in the NFL.
