| You guys are whack........... Nirvana was the shit and still is in a lot of ways. They are one of the best bands in rock history. I saw them live several times at some local bars in Seattle and they absolutely rocked the house. I was into their previous record Bleach before they came out with the hit for the masses "smells like teen spirit". They were a refreshing new sound coming mostly from crap at that time. To this day when I listen to their songs and it gives me the fuzzy teddy bear feel good feelings because they still rock the house. For all the haters out their stick to your American Idol top 40 crap. | ||||

Anyway.. School didn't come to a halt or anything but most of the girls that I knew were really upset and cried and stuff. But I don't think that Nirvana was the best thing since sliced bread. I understand that I am in the minority opinion here, but that's how I feel. Thier music was catchy, it was typical of the period, but Cobain had a terrible screetchy voice, thier music was simple and not very impressive. Every kid that learned to play guitar figured out teen spirit first on thier own without tabs. It was what 4 cords played repeatedly for the whole song? That's typical of what thier music was. It was simple, catchy, pop stuff that would play to an MTV audience. Yes I did go to a preppy school Welcome to St John's Preparatory School

Although they popularised the stop/start loud/quiet fingies they were really just feeding off the trend last previously 'discovered' by the Pixies His love & knowledge of even earlier obscure punk stuff is respected over here. They wrote good songs & were decent performers Originally Posted by WickedLou9 Part of his skill/appeal was playing to his weaknesses such as his screetchy voice
You seem to be saying that simple =! impressive, ..., if so, its so clearly both wrong & irrelevant anyway that it almost precludes you from being allowed to expess a view. The fact that beginnerschose to work out the song for themselves is what matters not the fact that they could

| Pshh. You guys don't like my taste because you are slaves to the main stream MTV music machine. While you were watching MTV I was at the FNX music series on Landsdown street watching Catherine Wheel, Gravel Pit, The Bosstones, Machinery Hall, and some bands you have probably never heard of. I was at the GreenDay Concert at the Hatch Shell that had to be shut down with tear gas. Welcome to Paradise - News - The Phoenix | ||||

| I was in a band around the time of Cobain's death. We were playing in most of the same clubs he had before he was famous. We were well known in our area and well liked with average show attendance around 200 +. Looking back on our music I can say it sucked. Nothing unique or unusual about it. We were a product of the times. We made 2 albums before we all called it quits. We opened for some famous names but no need to name them as I said before our music sucks in retrospect. Time tells all and Nirvana still doesn't suck. | ||||

Chris Cornell was ten times the vocalist that Cobain was. Of course he wasn't pretty like Cobain was. Chris Cornell is still singing today and I think that speaks to his ability. He never gets recognized for how good he is. He was a founding member of Temple of the Dog with Eddie veder, he was front man for Sound Garden, and he is now signing for Audio Slave. Had Cobain not offed himself, he would have sunk slowly into obscurity just like the rest of the 90's grunge bands.
